Second greatest. Brilliant + famous = lofty ranking.

You've got to accommodate all types of reader I guess, I'm guessing as I wasn't involved much in the creation of the list, design, placings etc etc I just wrote a few of the pieces. But I know they were trying to be as varied as possible.

I did offer a few suggestions though, in my usual forceful nature.

I mean, who else would've tried to get Chang Vs Tokashiki in? ;)

I need more Chang. More. Only seen the second Zapata fight, the three Torres fights, the fights with Chitalada, Tokashiki, Ursua (?), Lopez, Garcia, Perez, the two Ohashi fights, and Kuramochi. No montiel or the first Zapata fight. More Chang!

Zapata 1 is the best Chang ever looked - great footspeed.

And he was injured going into the fight.

Out of curiosity what criteria is used to determine what fights are better than others?

I'm watching Chacon Limon IV and while exciting I wouldn't label it as technical. I assume one sided beat downs aren't taken into consideration either.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

And no, Chacon-Limon wasn't exactly fistic ballet, but you'll never see two guys give more of themselves.

It's the fight that turned Flea into a changomaniac.

Chang looks so good in there some might even suggest he would win a few rounds against Ricardo Lopez:yikes

It is a matter of taste.

I like to see good technical infighting, defense, and countering at a brisk pace. Then the intangibles like determination and courage play a big part that take any two fighters from fighting each other into something different than just a normal good fight.

    The moment becomes something.

A one-sided beat down can be a great fight if you enjoyed the way the beatdown was deployed. I love Duran-Moore. Duran was at his master-of-everything height. Moore was too tough, too brave, and had no one who cared about him in the corner. But...for sheer joy of watching educated action...that fight does it for me.

Hagler-Hearns' first round was crazy. But after that it settled down. But if I were there I would have been out of my chair the entire time. Gatti-Ward I overated? OK, I might be able to understand that buuuut.... then I think about a few of the rounds and I still cannot believe it.

BTW, I am not sure if I saw Trinidad-Vargas on those list. Pretty sure that was a banger. Probably should go on my list.

    Yeah Trinidad-Vargas made it.

Even taking personal taste into account I can see no argument for Corrales-Castillo I/Gatti-Ward I being better/greater than Chacon-Limon IV.

There are some really bad choices on here.

Tiger-Fullmer I isnt anywhere near the top. Once Fullmer realized he couldnt outmuscle Tiger he was in survival mode. Not a great fight at all.

Monzon-Valdez 2 makes it but not the infinitely better Briscoe-Valdez I?

Ross-Armstrong? How does a one sided fight make it?

Dempsey-Tunney 2? It had a history making occurence but the fight was incredibly one sided. Even the seventh round where Tunney got knocked down he was in control for most of the round before and after the knockdown.

There are a lot of examples on this list of fights that werent great, much less competetive but have worked their way into the cultural history of the sport for one reason or another. I can only assume thats why they made this list. But a fight like Tiger-Fullmer I which wasnt a really historic fight, or an exciting fight is a curious choice.

Ali-Frazier 1 and 3 should be flip flopped. The first fight was much better than the third.

Is there anyway to access the article? The criteria wasnt spelled out in the original post so I may be out of line in my criticism.

Im sorry to dissappoint but Im not Klompton.

I dont think I post in the same patronising manner either. But, if you ever have a chance to speak with him you will see that he is sarcastic which can come across as patronizing in writing.

I know Klompton and trade films with him. We speak on the phone on a regular basis but Ive never even met him.

My screen name was created by my son who set me up on here. He is a Game of Thrones fanatic. He came up with the screen name as a joke because Im the "pater familias" as he says.
