Fact is boxing titles have been fragmented since early 60s with the WBA and WBC having their own champions and of course things have got worse over the years. If things carry on with more and more World title sanctioning bodies, only fighters at cruiserweight and above will have long enough arms to hold all the belts if they became undisputed champ.
I think the journey strengthens the morality though. Quite a lot of buzz at the start, but as it faded, you stayed strong and kept true to the vision. Commendable.
They have promoters and managers to worry about how much they get paid. We're fans, that isn't our problem.
I applaud them for their stance and think we should support them. The sport is choking under all these faux 'champions' or title holders as they should be renamed.
Can I ask, how does the TBRB decide upon its rankings? For example does every member have an equal vote, or is it based on discussion, some other method?
So the Errol Spence-Manny Pacquiao fight is for the World Welterweight Title (Ring belt), but the Transnational ratings view it as the #1 contender Spence vs an unrated nobody? (Even though their last welterweight champ was Manny?) Yet, they see the hopeless mismatch between Canelo and Caleb Plant to be #1 vs. #2 to crown a new "world" champ at super middle for the first time in five years? They view the crap matchup of Jermell Charlo vs. Brian Castano as a bout that will crown the first Super Welterweight champ since Mayweather in 2015 (six years ago)? What, the Hurd-Lara classic wasn't good enough? Charlo-Rosario wasn't good enough? It's Charlo-Castanon that will crown the new champ? At least there aren't five champs in each division. But these guys have problems of their own. Let's face it. If someone isn't #1 vs #2 in their convoluted ratings at the exact moment they fight, they don't see it as a new title fight, either. How the hell is Spence-Pacquiao not a welterweight title fight? On what planet is that not a title fight? The best welter alive today in his prime vs. arguably the best fighter who ever lived (who knocked off an undefeated welterweight champ in his last fight - a guy who was undefeated for 12 years and had made eight title defenses)? But it's not because it doesn't involve freaking Bud Crawford? Seriously?
One belt per Alpha Name them The WBC belt, The WBA belt but NOT the WBC WORLDTitle. Be like the USBA & NABF belt. Only one world title per weight class
They have ALWAYS been fragmented. There were ALWAYS multiple titlists. ALWAYS. But, once an era passes, history is literally rewritten and we pick and choose who we viewed as world champions. There were Police Gazette Champions. Colored champions. National Boxing Association champions. New York State Athletic Commission champions. Heavyweight champions of only FIVE US States and England (Joe Frazier). Ring Magazine champions. WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO champions. WBF champions. WAA champions. IBC champions. British Boxing Board of Control recognized champions (Lee Savold and Joe Frazier) at the same time there were National Boxing Association champs (Ezzard Charles) and WBA champs (Jimmy Ellis). When people talk about Henry Armstrong trying to win titles in four divisions, they don't designate which middleweight champion Ceferino Garcia was. But everyone didn't recognize Garcia as the champ. It has always tended to get sorted out later, not so much while it's going on.
Hopefully there is an explanation of the rankings. They make their ranking archive easily accessible, which is good. But it throws up many questions for me. It seems they operated on a you replace the guy you beat, to some extent. For example, when Canelo beat Smith he became #1 Super Middle. But it feels like there was something else going on that enabled Fury to become champ. Unranked Ruiz Jr. defeats #1 Joshua in June 2019. Okay, Ruiz Jr. Becomes #1. Joshua drops to #4. Fury is #2 and Wilder is #3. Joshua beats Ruiz Jr. In December 2019 Ruiz Jr. replaces Joshua at #4 Joshua moves to #3 Fury stays at #2 And Wilder leap frogs into #1. How does that work? Looks to me like they really wanted Fury v Wilder rematch to be for the TRBR title. So they now have a champion (Fury) who can quite happily never fight the guy who has been holding and defending 3 of the 4 belts (Joshua).
