Fully agree. But if every publication agress to shun the belts, and every broadcaster does, they will very quickly lose their prestige.
Doubt it’ll make much difference but it’s an admirable stance and I’m going to try and follow suit. The current situation is a complete joke so fingers crossed this is the start of cleaning up the bull**** and having your handful of proper champions and the contenders coming for their belt rather than promoters navigating fighters whole careers to avoid the very fights we all want to see.
But that's not true? It wasn't "freaking covid". It was because he didn't want to for six months. Then it was because of COVID for six months. Then it was because he didn't want to again. What's absolutely true is that it's impossible to please everyone and there's no point in trying. A lot of people went mad on the site because TBR changed the inactivity policy because of COVID and wanted the original rules to stand. But it will be 25 months for Manny once he next gets into the ring. That's a long time and I don't think removing him for inactivity is unreasonable. Only if you really believe COVID stopped him fighting is it reasonable to think otherwise, I think.
What does shunning the belts actually look like? Right now, if a legitimate champion also holds a belt it's relevant and if an unknown fighter takes a vacant title or beats a tomato can to get his then no one pays any attention and the belt loses relevance i.e. Teo Lopez is recognized as the real champ and Deven Haney isn't despite them both holding belts . What more is there to do?
Some guys who I know that write about boxing, they don't mention the ABCs ever. Just literally never discuss them. Other things you can do is never visit the website, absolutely never backlink the website, never follow them on social media etc. Obviously they are here to stay, forever, or at least until terminal mis-management causes them to drop dead (been so close on at least one occasion) but there's no reason for a person to enable them, at least if they don't respect them.
But that's not true. Just last month Josh Taylor told Lopez he isn't the real champ until he beats Haney. Pacquiao and Floyd are considered 8 and 5 weight champions respectively. Davis is considered to be a 3 weight champ. So in short, lots more to do.
That's just trash talk by Taylor. Most fans recognize Lopez as the champ. I think it usually works itself out. Fighters will say anything to each other
I like the cut of their jib, but they only had to be cut that jib beause the Ring ****ed up. They were ahead of their time, but for reasons unknown they undid all their hard work with a series of very poor decisions.
