Boxing News: Will Floyd Mayweather Get Outworked By Shane Mosley? In boxing it is not always the guy with the better skills that wins but rather the guy that throws lots of leather. When the Floyd Mayweather vs. Shane Mosley mega ight goes down May 1st the man with his hand raised in the end could be the man that impresses the judges with a high punch rate. Below is a look at why “Sugar” Shane Mosley’s workrate could give Mayweather Jr. problems.

    Boxing Picks Analysis:
Shane Mosley trains in the gym to throw punches at all times. At 38-years old Mosley still possesses outstanding cardiovascular strength. Mosley likes to stick his nose right in the action and put leather on his opponents for three minutes of every round. Floyd Mayweather Jr. is also a supremely conditioned athlete at 33-years old but he is very selective with his punches.

Floyd is careful fighter that does his best to stay out of harms way which usually results in only two or three punch combinations. Mayweather is laser accurate with his punches, but if the fight with Mosley is close Floyd’s lack of activity could hurt him if the bout goes to the scorecards.

Despite Mayweather Jr.’s cautious nature he has enough speed and power to prevent Mosley from just unloading on him. Mosley’s reaction time has dimmed and Mayweather’s lighting fast hands will make him think twice. Mayweather is also more slippery than frozen ice on defense and Mosley missing punches and getting countered could get him frustrated. Mosley will throw more punches than Mayweather but it won’t be by an overwhelming margin.

If it's the Shane Mosley that fought Margarito, he has a solid chance to outwork Floyd. Of course Floyd has superior defense, but he can get hit by one of those counter lead rights just like Shane can get hit with one of those lead left hooks Mayweather throws. Shane throws them also (Mayorga) so, we'll see.

if I was floyd I would be scared that the guy I'm fighting has 39 kos out of 45 wins but thats just me. I think floyd is slick enough to avoid most of his shots but I don't seem him being busy enough to win. Mosley by decision

Mosley isn't worried about May's power, trust me.
He is going to throw all fight. He does it vs everyone.

  5. In red is the key paragraph of the article.

While in theory Mosley can outwork Mayweather...thats only if Mayweather doesn't counter the **** out of him to make him stop punching so damn much. I guarantee Floyd has a gameplan to take away that workrate...

NDou, Castillo, Hatton, & Delahoya all had pretty high KO rates.

The great thing about this fight and what makes it exciting is that Shane's workrate on a bad day is twice that of Floyd's, so you're going to see a stepped up workrate for Floyd Mayweather for the first time in a while......

I actually dont see floyd punching a whole lot more then usual because shane throws alot and that is due to the fact that shane has never fought a FMJ so if he thinks he's going to throw and not get counter then its going to be a short nite for shane.IMO

Shane threw less than Hoya but still the three judges gave the last four, five rounds to Shane to win that 2003 bout. It doesn't matter so much on volume if you are stepping back and throwing and someone is always on you to knock your head off. Understand me that it's not like Baldo should have been given credit just cause he ate all that **** and still came forward... But Baldo kept his eyes on the floor and was slow like a robot - Shane is gonna catch him much more than expected and the judges will look at who's committing more on punching.

When i hear people on here predict Floyd by late stoppage

....They themselves dont truly believe that

    Thats just wishful thinking

If Anyone is going to get stopped in this fight it gonna be Mayweather,Not the other way around

Floyd has no chance of knocking out Shane

The only way Floyd is going to win is by UD and UD only

Good post. Win or lose, Mosley is going to come forward. He's going to trust his chin and push the pace on Floyd, throwing punches in bunches with consistency. We're going to see an extremely high quality boxing match. I can't wait for it.

Yeah, that workrate tends to get reduced to nothing with a couple counters in bad places. But who knows, maybe he'll overwhelm floyd and get some good ones in. I know I'm not the only one who wants to see that defense crack and crumble.
