did you all know this? there is no longer going to be a national venue or scholarships like there has been in the past. apparently something to do with the new honcho there. he's put things like surf liife saving - non olympic but popular sports in AIS program.

    i'm shocked.

it means alot more is going to happen at state level. i have no idea how or where gov funding comes into it but each state will have a centre of boxing excellence

fighters will be sent to other states for competetive spars

we should've seen the writing on the wall - bodo's lawsuit, the poor perfomance at comm games, and our best boxer in hooper continually playing up.

does anyone know anything about all this???

    WTF???

they are bootin boxing for things like surf lifesaving?? FFS wat are they thinking??

although i can see some positive in each state havin its own centre of boxing excellence if they can get enough fundingand they are run properly... thinkin the idea of havin a rep in each division trainin in an AIS style in each state would be good.

yeah i rekon this will work having a ruling body for each state, but .. the problem with aussie boxing still wont be fixed untill the A.B.A and the A.B.L merge and have alot more talent to choose from and be better represented at the commonwealth and olympic games

this could well put an end to the league. with things run on a state level more kids are going to have access to the better set up - the centre of excellence, the benefits they have to offer with scholarships etc - and of course thats connected to the association.

we may have a situation we're slowly but surely the league loses so much of its talent (which to be honest is second rate for the most part) that they can't field cards

to be fair surf lifesaving deserves faaaaar more recognition from the gov than boxing does.

So, what do they do at the Olympics?? Throw some '**** in the ocean, with 3,000 spaectaters looking on, and have a bunch of poofs in budgie smugglers go and save him??

Hope the Romanian judge is fair in scoring.

tryin to look at the positives...

the AIS had wat 10?? spots available?? one for each division??

on a state level we could get the best from each division and give them full time live in AIS style trainin. X that by each state we could have 60 or so boxers on full time scholarships!!

also if they all got regular sparrin against each other it could have the ability to really develop alot more of our best.....

I like the idea of a state run system in theory. lets hope they can make it work in practise

the powers at be here in vic seem excited about it. i'm not sure myself how i feel about it.

we're start state training in a little over a week - there are 50 boxers in the initial squad - so i'd say Super fly sam is probably on to something. by the states taking more responsibilty we get the improvement that competetion and rivalry brings.

it could also mean, if the funding can be got from the state gov, that we could send state teams overseas to compete also. be great experience if that were the case

The Gym is currently getting built in Dickson and from what Iv read in the peper it's going to be a one of the top gyms in Oz.

The CMFEU own a club/pub just 10 meters away from where the gym is getting built and from what i have managed to gather from other boxers the gym is already getting fitted out with a full size Octagon and Ring :happy

I will be signing up and i'll let you boys know how it goes!
