Hey. Like i've said on my last post, i'm new to boxing. I don't box. I guess it's more accurate to say i CAN'T box (body's simply not built for it, i guess). But since a year or two ago, i started getting interested in the sport. I'm not gonna pretend to know a lot, but i've been trying to read stuff to know more about it and understand about the little things that are important in terms of what makes a good boxer and/or boxing match.

My question is, do you guys have any tips for me? I mean, what should i focus on, which matches are good to watch, what should i be looking for in these matches, which boxers would be good to follow right now, etc?

Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Edit: english is not my first language, so if there's something i said that anyone may not understand, please ask me to try to clarify it. Cheers!

Feet are just as important as hands are, watch how fighters are positioned, the little angles et cetera. Watch for the little defensive maneuvers when the fight gets close up. People tend to ugnore these more.

My favourite boxing performances are Wilfrdo Gomez vs Alberto Davila, Rigondeaux vs Donaire, Mayweather vs Juan Manuel Marquez and Duran Leonard I.

Watch these and appreciate what's being put on display. Take a look at Lomachenko's fight as well (skip the Salido fight if you wish) guy's a complete master.

I've watched the JMM v Floyd fight as well as the Donaire fight. Did not really pay that much attention to their feet. I mean, i did, but not really that close. I'll have to check the fights again.

I have not watched a Lomachenko fight yet, tbh. Thanks for the info!

Damn. Now that's a boxer i'd love to see more of. Can't believe i haven't seen that fight, seeing it's on the may-pac fight.

One more thing... I've been seeing quite a lot of threads around saying that chin is important. Yes, it is, i believe, but it can only take you so far imho. I mean, boxing at a professional level... Doesn't matter how strong your chin is. If you don't have the proper defense, someone's bound to hit that and if that someone has a strong enough punch (which he should 4 out of 5 times, since he's a professional), you'll get ko'd anyway. Is this way of thinking wrong? Like i said, i don't box, so i really have no experiance on this.

You're not making any sense. You're new to boxing yet you don't box, in fact, you say you're physically incapable of boxing (you in a wheelchair or something?)

Even though you can't box, you want tips on what to focus on and if having a strong chin is important?

Are you asking for actual boxing tips or general conversation?

New to boxing in the sense that i'm seriously following the sport (matches, fighters, etc), as opposed to before when i only watched when i there's a fight involving famous boxers or those i've already heard of (like JMM v Pac IV). I don't box because i have health issues. [emoji20]

Thing is, where i live, not a lot of people really follow boxing (basketball is the popular sport here). So having a conversion with someone who really understands the sport is hard to come by. I'm trying to know as much as i can about boxing even though i don't box. I asked about chins because that's an aspect of boxing that, since i don't box, i find hard to really understand. I guess i'm not making sense. Lol. I guess what i'm trying to say is i'd like to know as much as i can about boxing given the fact that i can't play the sport...

You'll find a lot of resources online that already have information prepared much better than an online forum, where you may not always get a serious answer.

Considering the nature of your question, i.e. I know almost nothing about boxing...please tell me what I need to know... that is a seriously open ended question. I'm not sure there are many people that will take the time to tell you the ABCs of boxing in such a broad manner. Rather than reinvent the wheel, you are far better off checking out boxing websites that provide information on training tips/techniques. You can narrow it down to what you want to know, such as rosstraining.com or expertboxing.com. Training tips and opinions will vary, but these guys at least have well thought-out theory even though they may conflict with each other.

Good luck in your learning process.

I'd suggest spending some time on the Classic forum to get ideas (and in many cases find links) of fights and fighters that show great skill from boxing history.

You'll get a sense of who are considered the best, and why they are/were considered the best. There's a good bit of discussion on technique of various sorts (who had the best jab, the best footwork, etc., are often debated).

And while there is some discord, as happens on all internet forums I think, there is less utter **** than you find on the main forum discussing current events ... which more often than not degenerates into fans of this fighter or that taking shots at other peoples' favorites.

    Enjoy your journey.

If someone said a chin was important would you listen to them? Im new to boxing as well and the best advice I can give you is watch the up and coming fights, see the difference in the way different countries approach boxing. You want to learn about boxing, watching fights comes first, reading ****ysis comes 2nd. Do you think you would know wether having a solid chin is important after watching 1000 fights? I think you would, and it wont be somethng youll read off a piece of paper, itll be somehing you witness and experience.
