I'm just a little curious about this. I sent my pet Boxrec warrior off to do some checking on some of Nathan Cleverlys fights and noticed something strange about the officials involved (specially in a couple of the slightly controversial stoppages). There is 2 guys named Nelson officiating in several of his fights, 1 as Ref, the other as one of the judges. They're both American both from Minnesota, and apparently it seems, father and son.

Does this seem a little strange to anyone else? I know most governing bodies have rules requiring referees (possibly other officials too) to not be from either fighters hometown etc, but to have the ref and a judge related would seem to me to be opening the way for all kinds of mischief. A little scan down their records as officials indicates that they have officiated together on a number of occasions. Isn't this unusual? So much then for the choice of 'international officials' by the BBBofC.

Both the 'questionable' stoppages were against Euro fighters, incidentally.

Just to clarify, this is not a pop at Nathan Cleverly - in both the fights I'm referencing he appeared to be winning - comfortably in the case of the Murat stoppage, less so in the inexplicable 4th Rnd Ref stoppage against Kuziemski -where he had been rocked in the third. More a concern about dubious decisions in boxing as a whole, and the obvious possibilities for corruption involved in the selection of fight officials.

Will take your word on the Nelsons appointments. If so,this is a clear conflict of interest and begs the question who and why these two were appointed to the same boxing bout.:huh
