When its said that mundine is the only star of Aus boxing, its true. But only because Mundine had friends in the media who were willing to push his case from day 1, the medias point blank refusal to give good fighters a bit of credit is what is hindering aus boxing in a large way. If free to air shows could be put on showcasing some of our exciting up and comers ie: Kickett, Zappa, Iannazo, wills bros, ellis, tomlinson, ben edwards etc in good match ups it would create a huge following for these guys and get boxing back in the public eye.
If TEN spend some $$$ on advertising in primetime and be smart about the time they broadcast the fight they will find the results will be great. Hope the dont try to compete with the fotty codes as many footy supporters will look at boxing. A show like bad blood would go well on free to air.
Exactly right - the exciting young talent needs to have their public profiles lifted so as Joe Average (non boxing fans) knows who these guys are and cares how they perform in their next bout. Everything on the box at present is reality TV, everything! Perhaps the starting point, with that in mind, is a Biggest Loser/Pop Stars/Survivor format for boxing (ie 'The Contender' with Oz talent on display). If they actually went ahead with something like this (and wanted it to succeed) the only uncertainty would be how much it would cost to create public profiles for the contestants. Don't plug the show - create and plug the personalities, THE BOXERS!
Why is it that i have a full HD tv yet don't seem to have this channel ? Was just flicking the channels then and the 10 HD channel just says something about a HD demonstration. :huh
Just so you know it channel 1. Try doing a scan on your TV for all channels. You shouldnt lose your current ones where they are and it should pick up any new Channels that have come to air.
Quick search of the channel 10 forums shows that this channel 1 is not yet broadcast in my area so that explains why my telly won't get it. Cheers for the help anyways daz. :good
No worries mate hopefully it comes on soon. You think they would have it all sorted so they could put it out all together but who knows?
they should put the contender on as this would tell the stories and show the training that the boxers do and this will also make people apprietiate the sport as well as some televised amature fights
Agree on both counts. The Contender would be the perfect vehicle because it's 'reality TV' and that's flavour of the month. Amateur fights are great to watch, and from the 'non-boxing' public's point of view it looks safer with headgear, singlets etc. Also the fact that the viewer can keep track of the the points scored could be a positive.
I'm with you on the Amateurs - the last Oceania trials before the Olympics would have made unbelievable viewing headed by the Forsyth Pitt Heavy showdown. Its a shame that most of our Ams only get "discovered" during the 2 weeks of the Olympics and the Commonwealth games.
True DSS. Went to the Melb Comm Games 2006 boxing and it was a fabulous spectacle. The ring, venue and bouts were first class. Should have got tickets for more sessions! I think way-back-when, before HSV7's TV Ringside, the first televised fights on Australian TV were GTV9's Golden Gloves amateur fights (could be wrong mind you). So maybe it's a case of the wheel turning, and going back to the starting blocks again.
Hey boys!! Great to see Channel 10 (ONE) broadcasting KO TV at the moment (it is showing as I write). Might not be the latest stuff but this is still a good show. They are showing Omar Sheika vs Pemberton full fight at the moment. Not sure what's coming next, but great to see some international boxing on free to air tv and in HD!
I just caught the end of david haye's fight when he got knocked down, hope theres alot more to come from this new channel.
