I watch mma more, but I do train boxing,I know a lot of mainstream boxing fighters and fights, but compared to some guys here I dont know that much, little by little I am getting involved more.
Boxing will always be my number one, though i do like and watch the UFC although it does have some awful fights. The UFC also is the only mma promotion i can watch.
Boxing, by far. The only thing I like about MMA/UFC is when they stand up and actually throw punches. That rolling around on the ground crap is beyond boring.
Hey there Professor never seen you in the MMA forum before, you take a wrong turning at alberquoiquae? :hey
Boxing, I do like MMA but I prefer boxing a million times over..And the only time I enjoy MMA is when it's stood up anyways, so I guess I don't really like the "mixed" concept of it anyways..K-1 is good
I like boxing more, but do watch some MMA. When UFC/Strikeforce/K1 are all competing against one another, that will be a gigantic step forward for MMA. At that point there needs to be one regulatory and sanctioning body for the sport, and it would have a major advantage over boxing, whose biggest problem is you don't always have the best fighting the best. Some things I prefer about MMA over boxing: - 5 min rounds...damn, that is tough! - A loss doesn't mean you are "washed up", just that you need to work harder - Lots of work to become well rounded Some things I don't like about MMA: - Lack of established amateur pedigrees means Joe Meathead can get into the Octagon, even if he sucks. - Lack of cohesive training = well rounded fighters. There are a few, and they dominate. But many more 1 dimensional guys. - Ju Jitsu seems to be a blanket statement for "non-wrestling ground fighting", and doesn't necessarily mean there is any martial arts training background. - Arm punches. WTF is up with the lack of boxing training? - UFC is starting to remind me of WWE. Dana brings in and cuts contracts like wildfire. I think he is more interested in "good television" that talented fighters. Which leads me to... - Horrendous judging in the UFC. Its like they are not even watching the same fights sometimes. I think they pick the most "television friendly fighter" over more skilled fighters often. Its a competitive fight, not a popularity contest...right? Right?
boxing all the way. whenever there's a big fight coming up i'll be talking about it for weeks and my wole weekend will be planned around watching the fight. if the fight is on at 5am it will effect everything else i do that weekend. while i might watch the odd MMA fight- I watch it in the same way I might watch rugby- there's nothing better on the TV so why not. I went to an MMA fight night once and its very hard to see whats going on unless your ringside. They go to the ground very quickly and you cant see whats happening
