Is it just me or am I the only one who enjoys boxing's current low popularity? I love being one of the few people left who enjoys the sport. It's as though we have are own cult. I can't even count the # of times someone who knows nothing about the sport jumps in with statements of Lennox Lewis and Roy Jones Jr. being the 2 best current fighters. It's as if most of the population is about 10 years behind the rest of us . and then when we mention Clottey, Khan, Froch, or dirrell they look at us like we know nothing about the sport or they do there normal ackward silence routine. The best thing about this website is unlike most cities where we're thrilled when we actually find the one other boxing fan in town. On this website there are so many fans that we actually have the luxury of hating the other fans because there are so many fans we'll just agree with one of the 300 other posters online at the time. We even have the enjoyment of ignoring or harrassing certain dumbass's on here ( Floyd nuthuggers)! So I guess what I'm saying is when it comes to the current state of boxing, I'm completly satisfied..........................other than the heavyweight div.:bart

i dont and ill tell you why

    - Low popularity will start to reflect on fighters pay at some point, and i believe boxers deserve the highest fame, notieriety and pay for what they do in most cases. It hasnt shown yet but if popularity continues to decrease, it will end up showing.

    - Low popularity also is reflective often in how many people take up that sport, and for boxing to sustain its historic quality i believe its benifitted by a vast pool talent, one which will indeed wax and wane with its popularity in most instances.

That being said, boxing is as popular now IMO then it was when i first started following it back in around 2000 or so, overall. I actually think boxing is going through a mini revival of sorts.

Pac will continue bringing boxing back to the mainstream

On New Years Eve, thanks to Manny Pacquiao's strong global popularity the boxing icon tapped arguably hottest ass on the planet in Jennifer Lopez. Yes, I am having some play on words here as we pun our way through this one. On New Years Day 2010, Yahoo.com released it's first top 10 most searched (See photo on this page).

    Number one went to Jennifer

Lopez, while hot on her ass for second place
    was our man, Manny Pacquiao.

i see what your saying though in terms of the social area of it, but honestly it is somewhat annoying to me that i cant talk boxing with anybody outside one or two close friends. I would like if it was just a bit more popular.

boxing is about stars to general population, there is a hardcore support base around the world and there rest are following stars, like in england Hatton and Khan, Denmark, Kessler. get the point.

I don't agree. boxing is extremely popular. We have so many boxing websites and shows that we can always be updated. Only baseball, basketball and football get more coverage. They also have more stars and more games to cover. There are only a handful of "great" boxing matches a year. That has NEVER changed. Also, we have RARELY had more than three big worldwide household named stars of boxing in the same decade. 50's: Sugar Ray Robinson, Joe Louis and Rocky Marciano. 60's: Floyd Patterson, Sonny Liston, Cassius Clay. 70's: Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier and George Foreman. 80's: Muhammad Ali (On his exit), Hearns, Sugar Ray Leonard and Duran. 90's (Golden Era) Roy Jones Jr. Mike Tyson, Oscar Dela Hoya, Felix Trinidad, Bernard Hopkins, Lennox Lewis, Evander Holyfield and Julio Ceasar Chavez. 2000's: Floyd Mayweather, Oscar De La Hoya, Roy Jones Jr., Felix Trinidad, Bernard Hopkins, Manny Pacquiao, Sugar Shane Mosley, Ricky Hatton and David Haye. We still have main attractions. They just need to fight and eliminate one another.

i really don“t care about how popular boxing is by the mainstream american public.. i just like good fights.. and imo, the less popular boxing is, the better the opposition of the best fighters has to be to get paid... Back in the day, when boxing was mainstream... the world champions were fighting 2 or 3 easy opponents after winning a title.. now only Kelly Pavlik is fighting 2 tune ups in a row

i don't think boxing is down right now. in the past few years we have finally gotten fights that the public want to see. we owe the mma (men on men action) a big thank you because they were hot on our asses. we just need bigger fights on regular tv, and i can totally see boxer being household names. you can't tell me if marquez-vasquez would not be good ratings if promoted right. however boxing definately shot themselves in the foot with no pac-pbf in march.

The more popular boxing is in the mainstream, the more talented young athletes will go into it, and the better fights will be made because of the potential money generated.

Boxing as a niche sport doesn't help anyone.

The problem with boxing is like any other sport in this time period....everything has become dominated by capitalistic monopolies...Don't get me wrong, I'm a capitalist.... However, it should be "checked".....but look at what is causing problems in giving what the people deserve and want...

    1. Promoters
    2. The Alpha-Bodies
    3. The Commissions....

It's all one big monopoly, and it's damaging the sport....I hate MMA, but I don't see it as a threat....MMA will kill the WWE...
