Boxing really isn't low in popularity. Boxing is big time around the world, money reflects that, TV ratings reflect that, etc. Really, the only reason why fans and other people is because of the media. The media doesn't really cover the sport (Even though I have seen some increased over the past few years) but all the media covers is Football, Baseball, and Basketball. That's it. Every other sport they don't really cover or they cover very little. (which is the boat Boxing is in) I have never understood why the media plays the "Boxing is dying" card. When they don't cover Tennis, Golf, (only when Tiger is playing) Hockey, etc. Look up the ESPN search engine Boxing is ALWAYS in the top 25 (usually in the top 5-10) Here's a link to this last month and look up the other past months: http://espn.go.com/espn/search/news/story?id=4701305

Also, I still don't understand the "MMA is taking over Boxing" card either. I don't recall watching ESPN and seeing a weigh-in or people talking about it or highlights of an MMA fight. Boxing may not be like it used to be in the '60's and '70's in America, but it damn sure is a lot more popular around the world than it has ever been.

It will never have a real revival until things get sorted out. First and foremost they need to televise championship bouts on free or regular cable. Countries around the world can watch boxing for free but not in the US and that's bad business. Two promoters and mangers are given too much power, boxers should be the ones negotiating with the networks. Promoters have been a problem since the arrival of Don King.

Three - too much weight divisions. We don't need a junior featherweight, junior lightweight, jww, or super middleweight division.

Four - too much power is given to sanctioning bodes, they seriously need to loosen up the rules. I think the WBO is the best out of the alphabetical titles because their rules are not very strict. Although the WBC has been stupid over the years, they at least give their champions a time table to fight mandatories.
