I looked it up, and Yurii Zakharieiev is the youngest ever Ukrainian to win a World Championship gold medal, beating the previous youngest, Vasyl Lomachenko, by TWO WHOLE YEARS. I'm watching one of Zakharieiev's AIBA fights, specifically, this one: This content is protected WOW, he's good!
I have been watching him recently as well and he is likely the best amateur right now. Probably will be the next great thing coming out of Eastern Europe if he doesn't turn over too late.
Are you kidding me?? The harris akbar decision was a ****ing joke. They literally had the bout reviewed by an independent panel and zakharieiev was deemed to be the rightful winner. They even suspended judges over it and everything. Smh
He must have been trolling. It's the worst robbery you could see. Never known them go to lengths of firing judges indefinitely after a robbery, that's how bad it was.
Yurii Zakharieiev seems to have a great style, looking forward to seeing more from him. I think he still has to learn to make single punches count a bit more. But that is common in successful amateurs anyways. As it is he attacks a lot which makes him dominate the fight but gives better opponents a lot of chances to counter him without the danger in individual punches that would make them hesitate to counter.
