Just curious to know what boxing magazines and websites poster here regularly read. I'm only asking about the written word as I feel there are plenty of threads discussing the merits of the abundance of YouTube boxing channels. So is the ink being spilled on paper going out of fashion or is there still a desire for a well written article? There are still plenty of good websites out there and quality writers around, so which ones do you have book-marked. Which boxing writers do you enjoy reading?
Boxing Scene is my go to site for boxing news. Writers covering boxing from all parts of the world, keeps me up to date with news plus you get articles that are opinion pieces too.
Same, since 1987, used to buy used ones , together with copies of used KO magazine, from the Guardian Royal Exchange in Manchester City centre. Still a byword in quality, from the writing, to the articles.
Still get it delivered weekly myself and read from cover to cover. Not only quality fight reports and previews, but more in depth serious interviews rather than bants with koogz, great features on lesser known fighters, stories about fighters for whom it hasn’t been world titles and riches, views of famous moments in boxing history from different perspectives etc. Like the amateur section as well. Also there’s something about having a print publication that holds my focus more than the internet were I have the tendency to flick from thing to thing, but going for a coffee with a magazine get more immersed in it, maybe that’s just me! I do wonder and worry about it’s financial success and viability for the future though, don’t know many who buy it even at our boxing gym except some of the older ones
That little place inside, with the little shops selling oddities, magazines just piled up, 50p each, great times. Wander into Spinnin Records, see if the late great Stu Allan was in there, marvel at the price of knackered Levi's in Afflecks Palace, get a special in the arcade, (£1.25 for chips beans, and a cup of tea,), train home. Loved KO magazine back then, plus all the ring results from across the world in both BN and The Ring.
100% the same! It's such a quality read, love the old timers section, and the interviews with more obscure fighters , trainers, gym owners....... Also like their stance on the ludicrous belt situation. I'm subscribed, could read their articles online, but prefer to wait for the Thursday when it lands on the doorway, and read it cover to cover.
I used to just read Michael Benson's Twitter page to find out what's going on but he's started tweeting more about Youtuber boxing than actual boxing and I can’t be bothered scrolling through shite about how KSI thinks he can beat Mayweather to find out any proper stuff. I'll try Boxing Scene as posted above and think I might start getting the Boxing News delivered.
Cheers for the replies so far. Good to learn there is still appreciation for written boxing coverage.
Boxing News. Read Boxing Monthly until it stopped. Bought Ring mag a bit but it was always so out of date
