It's poor to you because you only see poor boxing.

Let me tell you, when you can get taken down, kicked AND punched, the range that boxers use goes out of the window.

Range, stance, the lot is changed.

You just see someone going down from a punch and go "boxing won again!" but it's more than that.

I wish boxing was more like UFC.

The very fact were even discussing this fight is something being taken for granted. In UFC the big fights almost always get made. In boxing they almost always do not.

i get that, ive been watching mma for a long time, but in this specific fight there was none of that. only poor boxing, which decided the fight in 13 seconds. i dont care if it's k-1, muaythai, shootoboxing whatever, that was an exceedingly poor display by aldo and that's a fact

Nobody's expecting these guys to be Pernell Whitaker, however, there's no way you can tell me that basic boxing fundamentals of punching does not translate into MMA.

    Aldo's was VERY poor.

No but I have seen boxers charge forward and get tagged with shots, had they been wearing the mma gloves then there would be a lot of face planting going on at 'championship level' boxing.

Its a different sport. Put someone like Mayweather and Whitaker in there with their fancy moves and all that **** would go out of the window the first time they get kicked in the legs and if they get taken down which they would they would get easily finished. Boxing isnt superior to MMA and vice versa its two dif sports. Mayweather was crying like a hoe and complainging to the ref cause of Maidana's rough tactics, now imagine him on the octagon with MMA rules he would literally die of panic.

And btw we have seen numerous boxers some of them world champions lunging in like Aldo, Hatton against Mayweather comes to mind.

    You are on point.

Superior boxing ... superior striking, even - does not necessarily even mean that you will win the standup war. Anybody who has watched Fedor vs Cro Cop will get an appreciation of how superior ground skills inherently limit a striker's options. Certain strikes which can be a devastating staple of a striker's repertoire become risky moves (eg - high and middle kicks) because the striker cannot risk the takedown by his opponent. The striker HAS to stick and move, because planting his feet for power ... risks the takedown.

Conversely, the better ground fighter can be more creative with his standup, because he WANTS the fight to go to the ground. There's the old classic trick of faking the shoot, to get the striker to bend forward for the sprawl, only to tag him with a punch.

There are LOTS of dimensions to MMA that do not necessarily mean that somebody with elite striking (nevermind only boxing) skills can simply walk in and take over.

Cafe's posts are usually very good ... he just seems a little myopic when it comes to MMA ;)

Yes, for naive Americans which believe the UFC propaganda mouths Dana and Rogan.

Take a dutch guy like Bas Rutten: Did he ever call someone like Ronda, Jones and especially Lesnar as a potentially GOAT?
    No.

The so called Fat Russian was and is the only top contender for being the mma GOAT.

Dana was always ****ed he couldn´t sign Fedor. So he started to talk bull**** about him over the years, and his American potato UFC watchers believed him.
Bones Jones, Rona, Anderson, they never were on par with Fedor. Maybe Anderson was the closest to him, but no Lesnar or some other freaks.

    MMA History for Americans:
Did you ever ask yourself why Lesnar was HW champ in the UFC?
Could it be because Dana let him be to bring WWE fans to the UFC?
Since Lesnar was there, Dana never said any bull**** about WWE (which he did before).
Dana 2004-2007: "UFC is the real deal, Boxing is not, WWE is not"
Dana 2007 to this day: "UFC is real deal, Boxing is not." (no negative comment about WWE anymore).
The plan worekd out. Many WWE fans came over to the UFC.

Americans and WWE fans really started to believe, Lesnar was a real super Champ and combat sports legend...and could even beat Fedor or Iron Mike Tyson. :rofl

Lesnar was arguably the second best hype job of the UFC (just defeted by Ronda)...and the UFC and WWE fans did buy it.

Is this forum (Boxingform 24) not in the UK? I thought Great Britans are smarter than the US Boys and did not believe in Dana´s propaganda....but i guess i was wrong.

There was and is only one guy as the top contender for being the MMA GOAT, Fedor.
Outside UFC (and USA) this sould be cleared. No one with real MMA knowledge would ever call Lesnar or Bones Jones.

UFC = MMA in the USA, Dana as president, Rogan als commentator. History from 1993 to this day.

MMA = worldwide combat sport, most popular in Japan and a history of more than 22 years.

Some ppl seems to believe all MMA is UFC...nope.

    Cheers from Germany
