    "Borrowed" from another forum. What are some boxing rumors or stories you heard, took as true, and later learned were false?

    I'd always believed the story that 14 year old Tony Ayala gave then-champion Pipino Cuevas fits in sparring.

    has anyone ever actually confirmed whether or not Holyfield ever said he would 'never fight a convicted ******' when asked if he would ever fight Mike Tyson before their 96 clash?

    I've always heard a nasty rumor that Tommy Morrison new he was HIV positive since 1989, which would mean he kept fighting for 7 years knowing he had it

    That wasn’t a rumor with Morrison. It was confirmed after he died.

    James Toney claimed that he knocked Vladimir Klitschko out in sparring. Years later Pepper Roach (who was there) came out said that while Toney held his own, he DID NOT knockout Klitschko.

    I did know that Sonny Liston beat up a police officer, put him upside down in a dumpster located in an alley in 1957, it returned him to prison for a short period.
