There is this new thing in boxing that happens when people complain about a fighter avoiding contact with his opposition. Some call it "running", some others may call it being "smart". Sometimes its justified for a fighter to avoid contact and others not so much. Lets make it clear, there is a difference between running and boxing. They are not the same thing. So when a fighter jogs around his opponent for a minute(or more) of a round with no intention of even throwing a punch, THAT is running. I dont see how anyone can defend this tactic. These guys are Prizefighters not girls. Hell put me in the ring with Tyson, ill outbox the spit out of him (give him a sissy slap and run for dear life for remainder of the fight) and by the new "boxing" logic, I won the fight. What Ali,Pernell,Leonard, Pep, etc. did was outbox guys. Im sorry but Mayweather in the Corrales fight...RAN. Lara in the Alvarez fight...RAN(should have won "boxing" standards nowadays) Adrien Broner round 12 of the Molina jr fight...RAN.This it a sport where your intention is too hurt your opponent while not getting hurt yourself. Not avoid all contact period.

Yeah, there's a clear line between being defensively minded counter puncher going backwards and being afraid of engagement running around the ring.

It should be hit and not get hit while staying in punching distance of your opponent. For instance, people say Pacquiao ran against Rios.....Huh? When? He was more elusive but he was throwing punches and landing while dancing circles around the guy. Not circling the ring from corner to corner to waist time. Thats the difference.

Get over it. If a boxer is using a lot of movement then there are tricks his opponent can use to stop that. Banging the body helps. Maybe even cutting off the ring?

Whenever I see a boxer running from ring post to ring post without even throwing a punch, I don't get mad at the runner. I'm usually ****ed at the follower because he's not doing anything about it.

But its not. So you cant "punish" a fughter for doing what he is supposed to do.
You cant just make up something because it would be aesthetically more pleasing.

All everyone do is complain while in reality they lack the skills to produce results.
The sweet science doesnt seem so sweet during those stretches.

The point is not to get hit and hit your opponent, you could land 1 punch and sprint in circle for 3 minutes and if the other guy didn't hit you well you won the round and outboxed him, he couldn't touch you, how do you want to call it ?

Mayweather is not a runner by a long shot. That's an excuse that losers use to try and justify their lost. It's also a word that dummies use because they DKSAB.

I think if you are on your backfoot then it's boxing. And a fighter coming forward should be able to cut the ring off or at least try.

The point of boxing isn't to not get hit, its to win by punching the other guy more and try to avoid as much damage as possible doing it. They've turned cowardice or fear of being KO'd in some cases into a supposed "art".

Yes there is clearly a difference between boxing and running. A boxer will look to use movement to control range to land their punches from a distance where they are most effective and also use it to out position their opponent and land punches from angles their opponent doesn't expect. There is an offensive motive to their movement.

A runner is simply using movement to avoid engaging and then occasionally landing enough to win the round. It's a form of spoiling like clinching too much, they don't want to trade, they don't want to dominate they want to win convincingly by doing as little as possible.

Lara's performance against Canelo for me was the prime example of a runner. I've never accused a fighter of running before but you really couldn't call that performance anything else.

The intention of the sport is to hurt your opponent while not getting hurt yourself is what you say. Well isn't that what Mayweather did against Corrales? How exactly did he avoid all contract period while landing over 20 punches a round and knocking down Corrales 5 times?
