It really has gone too far :-(, organisations like the WBC/WBA/IBF/WBO etc. need to start implementing LIFE BANS (ie prohibiting a fighter from ever competiting for one of their belts) once a fighter tests positive and there's a been full investigation where wrongdoing has been confirmed. Boxing is 'the hurt business' afterall and it's not like running where a steroid cheat can be banned then given a 2nd chance because in boxing you're putting lives at risk when you're juiced to your eyeballs.

I mean take Vitali Klitschko for example, this guy was busted in the amateurs for his steroid abuse and he's 6"8 fighting guys who are normally 6"2 or smaller and yet he thought his natural advantages were not enough and that he needed his Hulk formula for that little bit extra.

The problem with casual fans is they've normally got a fighter they like who's a steroid cheat (Roy Jones? James Toney?) so they they become defensive and tend to even defend steroid cheats by trying to claim 'well everyone is on it' :patsch but not everyone failed the test and those of them who have should be punished. Another example is James Toney who is the Ted Bundy of steroid abuse in the sense he's infamous for his MULTIPLE positive tests yet today this guy is still allowed to box.

I think we'll only see real change when a fighter is killed or seriously injured in the ring by a steroid abuser but even then you can bet corrupt snakes like Bob Arum will try to lobby against any increased testing or harsher penalties for those caught cheating :-(

I agree.. It is about time that the various governing bodies and commissions upped their game in order to oversee that all fighters are tested (blood & urine) randomly and if they are found to be on peds they should be banned for life. Using vada is a way forward but only if they work in tandem with said governing bodies with full support for what they are trying to achieve.

This steroid situation reminds me of 90's Baseball. It's time to clean up the sport before someone does get hurt. Believe me if you are catching guys at the top level, it is rampant in the guys without that natural ability.

HBO and showtime can do a bit make all fighters who fight on there network take a blood test at the first press event on wendesday and after the fight late on sunday night. NO test no fight on the network.

you will see a guy killed in the ring for fighting a world champion caliber champion who is ranked 102 on boxrec before you will see 2 evenly matched guys fighting where once has trace elements of testosterone. no one cares about the mismatches that happen every day, look at the WBA cruiserweight title fight recently....but lets talk about high levels of testosterone

Steroid abusers should go to prison. If you can get arrested for striking someone then what's the difference? It might be a sanctioned fight but it aint been sanctioned for you to take PED.

I think a 12 month suspension, and a 10% fine from their purse (if it was for a fight) should be standard first time punishment. Thereafter, you are subject to random testing at ANYTIME (as long as you are a licensed boxer), YEAR-ROUND. . .

Second time = LIFETIME BAN. . No exceptions.

But give everybody a second chance.

It does increase stamina. Allowing a guy to stay in there or deliver stronger punches when he would have slowed down. And any punch could be the one that cripples a boxer.

Yeah, stamina is probably the main attribute it increases. . . Followed by punch resistance, prolonged punching speed, and power (won't increase your BASE punching speed, or power, but it will allow you to keep it the same in the 12th round, as in the 1st), and all the other things that come along with having a bigger, and more efficient fuel tank.

Not just that...listen I used to be one of those guys who did not give much credence to the benefits of steroids. I lost count of how many muscled football and bodybuilder types I dropped. But steroids also help with injuries.

Injuries are a part of boxing, I would say most guys training for a major fight sustain some type of injury. Right now, I have a badly bruised knuckle on my left hand and a slightly sprained right wrist. If I had a match this Saturday, I would still fight. However, I would have to be very selective about which punches I throw and how often I throw those punches.

Now a guy on Roids, might recover from those injuries or avoid them at all; giving him an advantage going into Saturday's fight, that he might not have had otherwise. He could throw whatever shots he wanted with no thought of injuries not to mention throw those same shots for a longer period of time with his increase in stamina.

Well, lifetime ban from the sport, like the TS proposes, sounds good to me... that would mean no more pacquiao fights.... ever... sounds actually PERFECT with me. Get rid of the scum of the sport!! Oh, and btw, not only ban, but jail Ariza for promoting/ providing all this stuff!!

We're talking actual proven steroid cheats not people you hope are taking/providing steroids.
