    Good article.

But I think it's just one of the reasons why he's been so successful at the higher weight.

hmm... then why is jmm still campaigning @135 while pac is currently fighting as a welter? does this mean that pac is the better p4p fighter? i guess so.

What people don't realise about Pacquiao is he went from being an unbelievably huge SFW, to a huge lightweight, then on to a very big light welterweight to stop at a small welterweight.

The way some go on they make out he was a regular size SFW which wasn't the case.

A small man moving up isn't anything new and the last few guys to do it all had the speed to carry it off (Pacquiao, Mayweather, Mosley and De La hoya)

The only difference is the speed Pacquiao came through but I think if he realised how effective he would be against bigger men he would have done it years ago instead of beating himself up to make weight so he could be the bigger man on fight night.

    Excellent read.

The problem is that people keep jumping back and forth on Pacquiao when ever its convenient. When its convenient, Pacquiao was the smaller man slaying giants because he has so much boxing skill. Then when that becomes inconvenient as questions start getting asked. Then all of a sudden Pacquiao wasn't the smaller man he was sucking down weight has huge strong bones and wrist the size of a heavy weight.

If this is true then there was no need to ask for extra advantages vs Cotto who he even looked bigger then on fight night.

Pac could have moved up to 135-140 in 06 and could have been in the mix to fight Casamayor, Campbell, either Diaz at 135, Castillo, Malignaggi, Mayweather, Gatti, Hatton, Cotto at 140. This isn't meant to knock Pac I was just thinking out loud about possibilities.

pac is not a very big light welter as his fighting weight is just about 8 lbs. above the light welter limit. he's about mid-size. hatton was a very big light welter since he weighed 152-154 during fights.

but pac is definitely a very small welter with his fightnight weight just 1 or 2 lbs. above the welter limit.

Hatton was a huge light weilterweight and he was only coming in around 151 and that was at the very end of his career.

So Pacquiao being 3lbs lighter makes him still a big light welter in my eyes as you won't find many that rehydrate up to over 150lbs.

    Exactly.

If you look at his weight compared to Mayweathers as they've moved up...

In their big fights at SFW, Mayweather weighed in at 136 vs Chico where as Manny weighed in at 145lb vs Marquez.

Mayweather's weight in the first fight at 135 against Castillo he only weighed 138lb compared to Pacquiao who weighed 147lb against Diaz.

Mayweather's first fight at 140lb against Corley he came in at 145 compared to Pacquiao against Hatton at 148.

Then in there first title fights at 147 Mayweather weight against Judah was 146lb where as Pacquiao against Cotto was 148lb.

Like I've said before, Pacquiao could have moved up much sooner if he had more confidence in his ability because Mayweather was smaller than Pacquiao when he made the move up.

Alright 4lbs, now consider Hatton was a huge Junior welterweight in the final fight of his career and his highest fight night weight recorded I believe it still made Pacquaio a big junior welterweight at 148lb.

I remember reading quite a few years ago about when Nazim saw Mannu in person for the first time he was genuinely shocked that he could make SFW.

i do agree that pac could've moved up sooner.

he did kinda overstay @130 spending 3 years there. that's why by the time he fought the barrera and jmm rematches, he had already outgrown 130 and was weight-drained making weight for those fights. the barrera and marquez rematches were his last 2 fights @130.

130 has the bigger names at the time, though. Who needs Judah or Baldomir or even Hatton at the time if you can tangle with legit hall of famers (or even ATGs) in Barrera, Morales or Marquez.

They should have all moved up in weight. Every one of them directly after fighting Pacquiao moved up to the next weight class.

Simple, take the tests unconditionally. No stupid ******* analysis needed. Bonds can pass em, why can't Ped-man?
