I keep hearing this mentioned, what is the "official" if any boxing season ?

does this only apply in UK or world wide ?

in the UK is September to mid July. Like School term with a short break at Christmas.

Promoters don't like doing shows in August as everyone is on holiday. and the boys at sky need a break.

It predates Sky by years. From what I've read to goes back to the time when boxers, ams and pros, used to work the boxing booths in the summer months.

TBH the "off season" for the pros in the UK has got a lot shorter over the 25-30 years that I've been watching boxing. It just seems like a couple of quiet weeks these days rather than a proper off season.

Gavin and Macklin had **** seasons with Birmingham being relegated, and Barca beating Man U in the champs league

I agree with Gaz that thsi idea of a boxing season is related to the days of fighters working the boxing booths at the fair. These events were huge money and even back in the 1820s could draw betting stakes over over £100,000 and draw crowds of over 20000 for some of the bigger fights.

I always thought it was due to everyone being on holiday, both punters and boxers
