After seeing the build up in the media for Haye v Chisora,I felt I had to ask the question of whether anyone else feels a sense of snobbery appearing from boxing circles First of all I understand the anger about the fight from those who felt the two fighters made boxing look ridiculous with the press conference brawl and I agree that both deserved sanctions from the BBB of C. I also agree that people involved with the fight have been shown up as hypocrites after stating that they would never become involved with such an event. However I feel that the description of this fight as a freak show and a circus are being banded about too easily from those who should know better. Many of the papers who have done nothing to promote boxing have now jumped on this fight and claim that it is ruining the name of the sport Surprisingly a number of friends who are boxing fans have stated they have no interest in the fight and that upton park will be filled with drunken football fans.while this is true, many of the same people have spent years criticising boxing for not appealing to the masses Finally, although both fighters are profiting from a shameful and embarrassing incident, wouldn't we rather watch a genuine grudge match between two british heavyweights rather than the spectacle of wladmir pounding on Tony Thompson or fury v maddalone. Although many refer to this fight as unlicensed, this is two fighters around their prime engaging in a genuinely interesting fight rather than Roy jones jr being allowed to continue to fight and risk his life in countries such as Poland Long rant!
I sense it to a degree. I ask any of these people who have a problem with this fight taking place to point me in the direction of professional boxing with morals... It's hard to find because sure you can put a charming face on boxing but then go and have a look at what happens behind the scenes.
Guess I am a snob then. The fight should not be happening, it takes the sport that bit closer to professional wrestling.
It's not the real boxing fans, that have a problem. It's the casual fans, it's the elite smug upper class people. We all know that the BBC are institutionally racist and they also discriminate on the working class people. And Sky? Are just a bias and corrupt organisation aswell, all the elite broadcasters have tried to ignore boxing and shut it out for a very long time. The BBC have hardley covered this fight........."I am talking about the ****ing News, which as a news broadcaster is their ****ing job"......but they have attempted to make both David Haye & Derek Chisora look like savage dum people...that's the only small coverage they have got. And the majority of society, is easily influence, most people discriminate naturally. It's not even about the Chisora vs Haye brawl. David Haye was invited on a show called BBC Hardtalk, and treated as if he was some kind of criminal. "That's the attention boxing or boxers will get, unless some upper class posh boy comes along"...............seriously people need to wake up, and see what these guys are doing to the sport, they are trying to knock it down. The news and the papers influence society and people, they can make you a hero or make you into some kind of villian. Remember that stupid slag of a ***** who win BBC sports personality of the year? The horse riding royal ass *****? Do you really think people voted for this *****? "Most people are thick as ****, they are really stupid....80% of the people who participate on this boxing forum are socially stupid! They don't have a ****ing clue! Not really aware of how the media, affect everything we do" BBC spend all there time broadcasting about cricket, rugby, tennis..... Because these are upper class sports, smug elite **** sports.........and you can only participate in these sports if you are a complete ****, or have connections to other ****s. Nobody in Liverpool & Merseyside plays rugby, accept for the sliver spoon fed brats from The Wirral! In their grammar schools etc... We didn't even have a rugby team in my school, we didn't even play tennis during physical education lessons. The people moaning about the fight are not really the hardcore boxing fans, and the people calling it some kind of a circus? Are racist, fundamentally casual fans have this kind of mentally... Give them a chance to discriminate, against whoever? Tyson Fury gets allot of discrimination directed his way because of heritage, Amir Khan? All these casual fans are racist toward him..... They will love you when you are winning, but If lose, or slightly not live up to their sometimes delluded expectations...? You are a bum, fraud, or N****r.
Good post. I didn't like that it went on outside the Board but I agree with a lot of what ****** says about the changes required there. To say as some have that this was the worst thing to happen for boxing is ludicrous. As you've listed there is far worse. You could argue Haye's gang-**** comment and boring fights v Harrison and Wlad did more lasting damage.
The BBC had their flagship news programme (Newsnight) cover the fight with a debate between ****** and Smith. I would hardly call that ignoring the fight... That is I suspect a regional thing, rather than class. Northern England traditionally is the home of League not Union. We played Tennis at school too, and I went to a bog standard comprehensive... I would consider myself a pretty hardcore fan, yet I was against the fight. As for the racist thing, well what evidence have you got, the argument you put across seems to have little thought, and comes across a bit desperate. Throwing as much mud as you can, in the hope something sticks. Racist remark aside, again I think you confuse class, with what many consider a general stereotype of the Country. But stereotypes are often myths. Frank Bruno was loved by many for losing. Steve Davis was hated for winning in the 80s. But when he started to lose, he became more popular...
I thought they made a mountain out of a mole hill. There are many other boxers who have brawled at pressers and many other sports where this stuff happens too. eg There are plenty misdemeanors in footy both off and on the pitch and we never hear the media trying to ban teams etc. The fact they hated each other is exactly what made the fight as interesting as it was.
