I've a;ways boxed orthadox but since yesterday I decided I would give boxing southpaw a go and to be honest I was really suprised at my success.. My defence was too **** but my jab was working a treat and the straight left down the middle was landing time and time again. Southpaws you got any tips? I feel awkward under pressure but for a first effort it was pretty good and I think I could be competitive this way once I get my defence together.
my trainer does this to me as he experimented the day after Hatton vs Pacman as he realised southpaws have so much advanatges. **** sake he happened to do it against me and im shite aginst southpaws and it worked a treat. Only now i have figured him out and it is to counter punch so its a real stinker of a spar
a 1-2 right followed by a right hook to the body always works a peach in the southpaw stance in my experience.
Right hook roll under lol. In all seriousness fighting southpaw is based on footwork. I know that most orthodox fighters when they hear this kind of laugh because footwork is so important in general but if you aren’t a southpaw you really don’t understand. The difference in the importance of footwork between an orthodox and a southpaw is like the difference in the importance of water to a mammal and to a fish. Until you get your footwork right there is nothing you can do defensively that will avoid that god damn mother ****ing right hand. The classic high guard helps but until you are able to keep an angle on your opponent the straight right will pummel you. Circle to your right most of the time and put your lead foot outside of their lead foot when you come into punch. This will put you on an angle that takes away their right and puts you in perfect position to throw your left right through their guard and your right hook right over the top. It also prevents them from moving away from your left. Oh and develop your right. A southpaw with a right hand is a dangerous thing. But also as rare as hens teeth. One of the pest posts I've ever read on fighting southpaw is here http://how-to-box.com/boxing/boxingforum/attn:-southpaw
I prefer the Southpaw stance. For some reason i throw alot faster from that stance than i do Orthodox :think
yeah i used that link when i started southpaw and it really gave me a good base of knowledge to work off of in sparring.
southpaws arent wanted on boxing forums, go create your own website and talk abou all things left handed on it!!:hi:
Fighting southpaw is ALL about angles, footwork and range. To tie in with correct footwork, where you throw your left hand can create absolute havoc in an orthodox fighters defense - straight left set right hook to finish works for me every time. Right shovel hook can be a devastating punch from a southpaw - luckily for me, i'm a right handed southie so I love this shot.
