...left foot and fist forward, right foot and fist back, or... ...left foot and first forward, right foot slightly in front of (not even parallel to left foot? I just got a new trainer, and he told me to do it the latter way, despite my always being taught to do it the first way I listed...anybody got something to say about this?
it just doesn't sound right . . . your right foot is forward and your right fist back? it sounds like you would be square in front of your opponent and have balance issues
left foot should always been in front of the right foot, around shoulder width apart and you wanna keep ur body at an angle , just look at hopkins stance, or morales, etc.
Okay, your orthodox boxing stance...most teach that you should like this: sideways, with the right side of your body pointing forward, and your left side pointing back. Your feet should be shoulder with apart, and your right foot should be slightly behind your left; not parallel! This guy is telling me my RIGHT foot should be in front of the left, even in an orthodox stance! Makes no sense!
Let me ask you this Leon: do you think it's better for a trainer to take a guy with raw boxing talent and work with what he has, or to break him down and teach him YOUR way? Also, is a good way to get a guy who is just starting, but has raw talent to learn is to let him spar, and pinpoint what he is doing wrong, or to teach him YOUR way, and not allow him to spar until you think he is doing it the way YOU think he should be...?
so is he wanting you to fight in a southpaw stance? if ur right foot is ahead of ur left that sounds southpaw quite a few fighters do that hatton barrera and more are left handed but fight orthodox so they can use that left hand more iv had a go at bein orthodox even tho im left handed and combos feel much better i just cant get the balance right on my legs in that stance
So, let's make sure we're picking up what you're putting down here. You're being told to lead with your right foot...in an orthodox stance? :blood
Depends on how set he is with his style. Hatton had been fighting as a face first brawler for years, and then tried training under someone who preaches defense and a stiff jab. His style change failed since he was way too ingrained with face first brawling. Then there's young, talented, and still teachable guys like Amir Khan who are easy to mold. Anyways, is your new trainer not a native english speaker? Is he having failure communicating to you to tell you fight southpaw? Could you post a youtube video of what he wants you to do?:huh I had a choice to stay southpaw or convert to orthodox, but I chose the southpaw route. Too many converts end up being one handed fighters with only one good punch. There's a guy in my city who was doing real great in the amateurs by keeping his dominant hand in front, but he lost terribly the first time he fought out of state as a pro. He is too limited as a converted southpaw; his only punch is a left hook.
