It is very easy for a boxing fan to fall in love with a master boxer versus a guy who is just physically dominating. The fans here (many of whom are the creme of boxing fans) are natural impressed with the master boxer Marquez and root for him against the physical phenom pacquiao. I enjoy both sides of the coin -- and I especially like it when a brilliant boxer isn't afraid of mixing it up. - Jason
You are correct. You are very much on to some Foucauldian analysis of our forum tonight. Certain posters set the boundaries of thought in the forum, and in some way define the limits of acceptability of different ideas. If posters go too far outside of those boundaries, especialy without reasoning, they are punished and brought back to the limits of acceptability. It can be argued that this serves a purpose, an effective sort of policing of our own. But it can also be argued that in some cases, it ******s alternative ways of thinking and even perpetuates false thinking. In this case, you are arguing the later, and I think with good reason.
:yikes they are very knowledgable I give them that especially for arguing their bias very eloquently in these boards. But cream of the crop??.. NO... Why I say that? go to a non Boxing site..like an MMA site go to their very small boxing forum..you'll find alot of very good posters there. Im an MMA guy first..I post in the MMA boards here because there arent many people and most are knowledgable
So true Acb..and in truth there are some counter thinkers over here..they just dont post enough..they probably got tired..I can recall Orishaman, Jose FM..I dont agree with their points all the time but I can appreciate them because they are effective foils..Lance Upper is good as well but this guy just hates everyone
I see your point Chimba, although I may be one of the posters you are talking about . No....im probably not cause Pavlik and Katsidis are two of my favorite fighters. The thing is - the more I have learned about boxing, and the more I have watched since joining ESB, I have just come to appreciate the slick boxers much more because it is very hard to accomplish that kind of defensive genius and reflexes (if not impossible....its almost as if they have to be born with the gift). And lets face it; more often than not your money is safe on the boxer over the puncher in the classic matchup between the two. You bring a good point to the table though. I think that the main problem is that typically guys like Guzman and Mijares get NO LOVE, so certain people (myself included "sometimes") rank them highly and talk great about them because I feel that if they are not hyped up, to an extent, they will be ignored and forgotten.
No youre not bro..you are fair I dont mind people liking boxers Im not a fan off thats not the point.. I just liek certain styles as well like Cotto and Pavlik... I guess there is alot of hate as well for Guzman and Mijares..I think its more due to a guy who calls them supernatural here.. otherwise people might really appreciate them as well.. To me its just not my cup of tea..Ill take Duran over sweet pea anyday..thats just my preference. And of course boxers who are slick cultivates that style even more because what else would they have otherwise. As you can see most slick boxers have no power..I wouldnt give them too much credit for being slick..not more than Id give bangers for bangin when they know thats their bread and butter
