I posted this in a different thread that was unrelated to this news but I think this deserves it's own thread. According to fightnews.com, Kanamu Sakama couldn't make weight for his JBC Japanese Youth light flyweight title defense. He is "said to have committed suicide as he couldn’t make good condition to fight and had his bout cancelled, of which he might have too seriously felt guilty."

    This is very sad.

    Rest in peace, Kanamu Sakama.

Whoa dude that’s terrible. But surely there was some other things going on in his life outside of boxing.

Probably but the Japanese have a really serious culture when it comes to “shame”. I’ve seen stories in the past where public figures have had to bow or be on their knees to beg for forgiveness if they’ve done something wrong in their roles.

He has disgraced his family name & by doing so himself ,
he brought dishonor , but restored his honor as he transitioned by committing the noble act of Seppuku
this is the way of the Japanese warrior.

In the Japanese culture making a mistake or shaming one’s self or family is referred to as “losing face” and it is a very serious matter. It is truly sad that this young man felt that way for not making weight.

RIP. Japanese culture goes a little overboard with the shame, i wonder if he committed seppuku? Its when you stab yourself in the stomach with a sword

    Terrible news. RIP.

Also perhaps the weight cut messed with his head. It messes with people's head's, emotions, chemical balances just by itself. If there are other factors in it well it's a recipe for disaster. Poor young man.

Maybe he committed a modern version of Seppuku like Mishima died(even though in a bit different way) but there is a good possibility there is something else to this. There is a good chance he was in debt and needed to win the fight to pay off his debt.
