Thank you. Yes I wasn't at top speed at all because this is my first video post and I wanted to make sure that people see what my technique says, if it is all wrong, I guess it would've been back to ABCDs.. I am still an infant in boxing but I will improve.
Thank you. I think it is because sometimes I stand with my right leg in a position as if I was going to kick...this is not muay thai so my coach goes "A bit square..you are not kicking anyone"
The hook, I've practiced and practiced. Sometimes I throw a good one, sometimes...not so much. But I try to spend some time slowly practicing the movements. You have to start with balance, then work on technique. Speed will come with repetition of proper technique. Power arrives when all of those things finally culminate. As for the hands, I just learned that recently myself. Makes getting hit MUCH easier to take. The breathing, I make that mistake myself. I get nervous or tense and forget to breathe....then by the end of the round, I'm gassed out. I'm working on it.
Thanks for the advice Slacker, I really appreciate it, I have already started practising with my hands glued to my head I've got a training session tomorrow and will remember to do that.
Not bad at all man. Have you figured yourself out yet? Are you a boxer, puncher, or brawler? It makes all the difference in working on the skills that will fit you. What good would it have done Mike Tyson to dance around like Ali while shadow boxing? My suggestion would be getting into a bigger space where you can simulate ALWAYS having a person in front of you. I always see people shadow boxing and just aimlessly turning/switching directions. Would another guy teleport over there? Slap a tennis ball or something down and circle it. Next I would say layer rather than do EVERYTHING. Work on throwing a "perfect" jab(s), i.e., slight step out (l/r), elbow close to the body, piston/corkscrew motion finished with palm down, finished with head movement. Then add a straight. Perfect those two in combination. Learn to lead with the straight. THEN add a hook. Slowly building. In boxing/striking, a master of a little usually beats a jack of all trades. Keep gettin' it in! :bbb
Word of wisdom, "glued to your head" is relative. Especially when shadow boxing WITHOUT your gloves. Blocking a punch with a glove on is one thing. Taking a shot on a bare back of the hand can either get your hand broken. Or worse, due to the reduced coverage versus the typical glove, result in eating a shot. Bare handed head movement (head, waist, knees) and rolling your arm up to your head as a last resort make more sense. Ideally you should be shadow boxing both with and without your gloves. Mostly with at first for the cardio and balance.
Hey thanks a lot man. I realy haven't figured that out yet, but I know that I don't want to dance around like Ali or any other similar fighters, I like the basic combination and would love to make them my best and also the left hook. I just want my footwork to be good, maybe something like Sonny Liston. Advice noted!
Thanks for this as well, today at training I "glued my hands to my head" and tried to make sure they remain up. I tried shadowboxing with gloves and it felt a bit "heavy" but i'll continue doing it. Appreciate all your help.
