Sheeraz looked decent enough. How much do boxers pay in sanction fees and so on, to walk away with an "international silver" belt? This old post here from 2012 is insightful - seems expensive for not a lot:
After his "fight" against Darch people should be very suspect about this guy and betting sites will for sure be keeping an eye on the betting patterns in his fights.
Allen beat a guy that was 5ft 9 and a half and hadn't won in 3 and half a years, he's three fights from a Wembley showdown with whoever is holding the belts. Rebuilding himself like Micky Ward did 20 odd years ago, can't wait for the Usyk trilogy and redemption after being sparked out in sparring.
Apparently UFC in London was one of the best MMA cards of all time according to the media... won’t help boxing if they start bringing more and more shows over here. It sold out in seconds last night.
Surely it will dawn on boxing at some point that the range of alphabet organisations, with multiple “world” and other versions of titles, and plethora of rival promoters, dilutes the effect of any growth in the sport? That the old school promoters obsessing over amateur boxing and the wider sport, means they don’t focus enough on the elite? UFC is a brand, Bellator is a brand and you’d struggle to name any other MMA. Amateur MMA doesn’t really matter to them that much and every event they put on is just that, an event. Not TV filler. And don’t get me started on “Thor” and all that. There’s just far too much boxing with too little commercial organisation.
Couldn’t agree more. Most people think UFC is the actual sport. It needs one of the promoters to fully take over and get almost every top fighter on their platform & control the sport globally. A few years ago I actually thought that may have been Hearn.
Interesting thread because it occurred to me yesterday that there were 4 televised cards in UK over the weekend with almost no hype or interest. I have a handful of pals who I would describe as being long term boxing fans, and tbh the only fight that sparked any interest was Thor v Hall, simply for the novelty aspect. I mean the Dubai card was bizarre but it wasn’t the worst thing I have ever seen, but at 6pm buried away on Eurosport, it was never going to capture much attention. That BT main event was just awful. I like Ava and he is avoided, but why is Warren hiring Wembley arena for that. I get that Sky have a deal with Top Rank but realistically they are so far away from their target audience with that Berlanga fight it’s unreal. UK boxing is completely saturated and I really don’t understand for the most part who is financing it and how they are making money from it. I mean the Probellum and BT cards are literally products that no one wants to consume! I don’t really have a point here just spouting some of my thoughts from yesterday!
It was a tremendous card with all winners in impressive fashion in Poturia,Nelson,Meatball Molly(with a highlight reel KO) Allen,Paddy and Aspinall in the main event. It was great. No surprise AJ,Hearn,Chisora and Frazer Clarke were there. And this is happening week in week out. Boxing is in shambles and will destroy itself completely in a few years. Once the money is gone that it.It s over.
