My little brother is possibly debuting this saturday as an amateur. His trying to become a boxer and has been doing good in developing a jab and has respectable power to keep the othrr fighter from rushing in. I was hoping any of you guys with boxing experience could give some tips on how to keep your opponent on the outside.
obviously #1 the jab but watch your opponent very carefully and keep that right hand ****ed and loaded and ready to be thrown like a fast bullet any time the opening comes
use the jab with impeccable timing, and use your footwork wisely. keeping your opponent on the outside is all to do with tactical footwork and a clever jab, and also movement, don't be too mobile, tell him use the space he has got and use his brain. boxing is as much thinking as it is punching.
If your opponent has any guts, he'll get inside no matter what happens. He should learn how to deal with him when he comes in by throwing punches and stepping out before he gets ready to explode, not getting cornered or pressed against the ropes. Needs to keep moving.
Thanks for the advice guys, unfortunately he didnt win this one. Idk how it slid by or why they let the fight go on but the other guy weighed in at 144 when the fight was at 135 so that was a huge disadvantage. He may be fighting again in a few weeks though
i mean each camp can so no or yes to the fight when a guy doesnt make weight... so his trainers said yes.. thats why it went on
in amateur fights or at least for this show fighters dont get weighed at the same time with their opponent. you get their get weighed and a physical and just wait for your fight. idk if maybe they told the coach and he said yes but my brother didnt know about until after the fight. But oh well its a lesson for next time
