I also thought that his sparring with heavyweights and the monster shots he took from Julian Jackson also took it's toll on McClellan.
Oh please stfu. Or perhaps because Wells is not as well known as De La Hoya and not as famous. No disrespectful, may he rest in peace, but there's no way to sugar-coat it. See above. No disrespect to any of those guys, but someone like Pacman is far more famous than Leavander Johnson.
For those that want to learn more about Leavander Johnson they may wish to go to the Leavander Johnson Foundation site. I hope this is the correct link: http://www.LeavanderJohnsonFoundation.org
Tragic story: Mike Tyson with his 'memory loss' after the first Holyfield fight. Remember that interview? 'I don't remember anything!' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FVXW05n8HzQ
Wouldn't put McClellan down as a tragic. It's been incredibley tiresome reading how sad & tragic people think his story is, not to mention the whining about the ref in his last fight. Over 12 years & counting...
I think if someone is permanently injured in a bout its tragic, regardless of people moaning about refs, or the amount of years gone by.
johnny owens story really broke my heart. he was still a virgin at the time of his death sonny listons is another one. here is a link to an unsolved mysteries on his case: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=k1MM2DPAZ84
How about the death of Davey Moore. His truck slipped of the handbrake and as he tried to hold it back he got crushed. Or remember Duane Thomas who got killed in a streetshooting There have been many tragic story's
Sonny Liston gets to me. For some reason, I hate and am moved by stories of his coming back to hometown Philadelphia after lifting the crown from Patterson and no one, no one being there to greet him as the new champ. He will always be a champ, a man, in my heart.
What about the Middleweight division? It's champions have had more than their fair share of tragedy. Nonpareil Jack Dempsey....Died 33 of TB. Charles Kid McCoy....Suicide. Stanley Ketchel....Shot and killed 23. Billy Papke....Killed wife and comitted suicide. Les Darcy, Australian claimant....Died 21 pneumonia. Harry Greb....Died 32 on the operating table. Tiger Flowers, his great rival....Died 32 also on the operating table a year later. Marcel Cerdan....Died 33 in a plane crash. Randy Turpin....Comitted suicide aged 37. Dick Tiger....Died cancer aged 42 only 18 months after his last fight. Carlos Monzon.....Murdered wife and later died in a car crash aged 52. Hugo Corro....Died of lung disease 53. Later on we had the Watson, McClellan tragedies albeit at super-middle.
billy collins spring to my mind..the fight with Resto was horrific, and what was more crazy is that Collin's father started to feel Resto's gloves and knew something was not right ...how long did it take fora proper investigation of the hand casts and gloves?? Panama Lewis deserves to be locked up with a lion!!
Edwin Rosario--drugs (cocaine) wrecked his career and life, i heard so many stories from former friends and famila about his coke addiction and puzzy addiction..
The Michael Watson story is more one of triumph over tragedy . No-one expected him to even wake up never mind achieved what he has since he fell into a coma after a classic encounter with chris eubank. Criminally under-rated as a fighter, its for his life after boxing that he should be an inspiration to us all in a shitty world.
