To be fair, you really dont "have to have washboard abs" to be in good shape, some people just can't get them, but being fat, yeah, than you could clearly be in better shape..

But take a guy like Joe Calzaghe, who has a tremendous workrate, yet no "washboard abs"... But he clearly doesnt have much fat on him either,

Dont listen to that hippie nonsense that RDJ always talks about. Its usually some long boring paragraph with words like "natural foods" "nonpasturized (bacteria ridden) milk" "smoothies" and "tea"

Fernando Vargas didnt get to where he is today without gatoraide, Winstrol and a whole lot of burritos

First of all, who is he? What are his credentials? Is he a champ?

Cuz I doubt he's even had one amateur fight with all the bull**** he's talkin.

Everything said is true. Hardly groundbreaking but true nonetheless.

Yeah I would like to know that as well. The points seem perfectly reasonable. It's not any ground breaking theories, just knowledge I imagine thats been around, yet ignored in favour of common "boxing wisdom" which isn't always right, just because it's accepted as the way to do things.

But it was interesting about the long distance running. Is it actually better to do a quicker run, work harder, for shorter period of time, and improve recovery time, which replicate round breaks. So if you can recover well in a minute after a session of hard anaerobic excersize, wouldn't that put you in better shape for a fight?

I guess sometimes you need to challenge yourself, step outside of the box for a while to see what others are doing and what kind of results they are getting.

People regard boxing as the "sweet science", surely the science part means that we need to progress and evolve, push ourselves and sometimes break away from the mould? I guess it comes down to the fact that if it ain't broke why fix it? that is true in the case of boxing training, but I guess the point here is, could we be doing better?

I remembe when I finished playing football and started doing nothing but cardio and lighter lifting to loose all that excess weight. After a few months I thought I was in great shape. I could run for miles without being winded. But then spring semester ended I came home for summer went to the gym first thing, bullshited with my trainer and freinds about my year and then set to training and I was ****ing dead in no time. It was easily the most exaughsted I had been since I was a kid.

I might have lost 70lbs from my playing weight and been able to run further than ever before but I had neglected my anerobic stamina. When I trained with football in mind I trained anaerobically my conditioning was sprints, sparring, and matwork at the dojo I never ran a mile or anything close. It might not have been good for weight loss but I could go and go at a high level. It was a lesson learned.

Windigo, I'm curious, when you say excess weight, are you talking muscle or fat?

Ok cool, that's what I was thinking. I was just wondering if you were a running back trying to shrink down or something.

If low rep, high weight training is so good, then why do all the meatheads that come into my gym punch like little girls?
