Not sure if it's been done to often, but wondering who has some interesting facts that few talk about.

    For me it's the mouthpiece.
Found it fascinating that the 1st time used- it was called (illegal) LOL!

    In 1921 Britton vs Lewis.
Britton's manager argued it was an illegal advantage. And he was given credit- the mouthpiece couldn't be used.

Woolf Krause, a British dentist is generally considered the 1st to make it...but Dr. Rodney O. Lilyquist was the one who got the final credit for it.

My Homestate of Wisconsin forever ended boxing as a collegiate sport.

Just as the NCAA has basketball, so, too did it have boxing
    https://www.intercollegiateboxing.com/2010/12/the-fight-that-ended-ncaa-sanctioned-college-boxing/

A death occurred after a fight. Wisconsin voted to discontinue, NCAA followed.

Referee Mills Lane was one of the final students to claim champion boxer in college: University of Nevada, NCAA champ.

I wish NCAA would reconsider. Since America has lost so many boxing clubs for kids, few routes today lead to pugilism.

A field behind a pub a mile down the road from my home and a 2 minute walk from my college hosted the first ever unification bout between an American and British champion, a field I'd smoked countless joints on before with some of my homies back in the day before I was stumbled across with this information.

Coincidently boxing or prizefighting as it was back then being the controversial sport it is/was, of course ended in a draw... go figure.
If anyone could spin a few facts from that fight if the top of their head I'd be super impressed!

I should probably add that it is believed to be the first time a unification match had happened. Also that humans being humans, civilisation being civilisation and the 21st century being the 21st century, that there's a retail park with a McDonald's bordering the god damn field now. Just so happens to be one of the busiest in the entire UK as well

Is that Cribb vs Molyneux, or Sayers vs Heenan?

Both were pretty controversial. IIRC Molyneux pretty much wasn't allowed to win, with Cribb being given extra time to recover, and someone broke Molyneux's fingers during a break when he was close to stopping Cribb, with Cribb eventually stopping Molyneux, they had a rematch but this time Cribb was in better shape and Molyneux had fallen to drink etc. and was pretty pissed off and disheartened over the whole thing. I think Cribb may have been a bit out of shape though. Molyneux was a former slave who showed promise as a boxer, his owner made a stupid bet for him on him, and so brought in a trainer that convinced him to free Molyneux if he won (which he did), Molyneux was the first person known to claim the championship of America (before Hyer)

Sayers vs Heenan was also a mess, I think Sayers was injured early, and when Heenan was on top (though he was a mess too) it got broken up and declared a draw. Sayers's injury was career ending, but they went on to become friends, Sayers served as Heenan's second against Tom King but Sayers fell to drink and ended up not doing a good job and they fell out again. Sayers only had one loss in his career which was at a lower weight, he was one of the smallest English champions. Heenan actually didn't win the American title in the ring, but lost to the champion due to an injury, and wouldn't be given a rematch so was seen as the better man and became recognised as American champion

In the spirit of things that was all memory so there are probably numerous errors.

Heenan vs Saysrs, mightily impressed with that knowledge bud! I'll have to read up on Cribb vs Molyneux, never heard of either guys and I'm assuming that was before Heenan vs Sayers

If you read about the prize ring era (which I have a bit), they are two of the best known fights TBH.

This is the video where I first heard about him

One thing I forgot to add was that after the second fight (I think), Cribb was awarded the first ever championship belt, I'm not sure what ended up happening to that belt.

Part friend, part bodyguard part entertainer. Fights between slaves..Tom always won.
Wow, I just got schooled, Cribb vs Molyneux...first for me. I see his name is spelled differently from what I've just viewed.

So the field you got "bombed" on is the field once where bomb punches were thrown, cool!!

And got to mess with ya...I'm as African-American as they come..some say militant, but when I see how some of my people behave, complain...you'd think my name should be Clayton Bigsby.

Pretty much lol. It was regular spot me and my buddy's used to smoke at, it almost seemed like fate the day I found out. There was a massive piece of history in a sport I was religiously following that was right in front of my nose and I was none the wiser, also Ali won his gold medal in Rome on the same day I was born, mind you my birth was some years later, it still resonated in a harmonic way with my soul. Sorry to sound like a spiritualist, that's the only way I can describe it.

To be fair, that was a massive sweeping generalisation I made, I just feel like there's underlying racial tendencies in our sub conscious that is only starting to be reversed from my generation. Even my Nan has that old school thought process embedded in her brain, but it's hard to judge when we're born 50 odd years apart, you just grow up with what your used to I guess and to her credit, she's 100% honest about it. Hopefully the thought process will be close to being eradicated by the time I'm her age... If we don't blow ourselves up that is.

Oh, you've seen Martin's channel have you? He basically packed it up and got a day job a few months ago because Youtube wasn't making him any money. Further proof, if any were needed, that markets don't always reward quality.

When giving hurts. Many fighters donate and we rarely here of it, but I thought this one was kinda funny considering Riddick Bowe wasn't prepared for the help he'd offer.

Bowe & Manager Rock Newman pledged to help curb violence. They offered $100 to give up illegal guns.
I learned it from a Ring Magazine in 94 . The link below bares it witness per the newspaper, that Ring quoted it from (if U type in Bowe it will say a bit about it)
    https://www.newspapers.com/newspage/141062542/

After the event -where they estimated maybe a couple hundred people at most would respond.

Well, 3,600 dudes showed up to give their illegal heaters in exchange for $100 @ Union Temple Baptist church - they came out the pocket $100 x 3,600.

If that can occur in one city...for those who heard about it...just imagine how many illegal guns out there, oh, Bowe said he would never do no **** like that again!!!!!!
