This is the sensational headline on the front page of Scotlands Daily Record. I even saw it on the GMTV table this morning although I don't know if they spoke about it. It refers to Barry Hughes and my point here is not to debate the case, but to ask why the press has to dump on boxing at any opportunity. According to the newspapers Barry Hughes is a very wealthy businessman, a millionaire whose businesses include property, security and sports management with clients including footballers, apparently he is a director of 15 companies. The boxing link is that he is a boxer 17(10) - 3 - 1, a manager and a promoter. As a promoter he has staged four promotions since his first in September 2007. Surely the headline would have been more accurate as "Property Tycoon" or "Security Tycoon".....Bloody Newspapers!
Somewhat paranoid. Promoting boxing matches simply has more of a public profile than being a property developer, it's what people are more likely to have actually heard of him for. If Mike Ashley were arrested, the headlines would more likely refer to him being chairman of Newcastle United than his other far more valuable business ventures. If Alan Sugar were arrested, The Apprentice would be fairly likely to feature in the headline.
wouldnt worry too much about it, boxings a side project for barry hughes, his braveheart security firm is where he built his fortune. he has been caught with a knife in a glasgow nightclub too, quite a gangster actually as far as i here, goes with the territory i suppose
