Sat was amateur hour but at the end of the day the right result or at least Edward's not losing happened. If the ref doesn't see a low blow and calls it a KO why cant it be looked at?
I don't think it's needed at all. Currently, decisions and outcomes can be reversed post-fight so what's the need for VAR? it's not comparable to football at all because that's a set 90 minute game. Boxing can end after ten seconds. They need to get their priorities in order and address judging as a paramount priority. Also Robert Smith needs to grow some balls and first rebuke the Sulaiman for interfering in a BBBoC sanctioned fight and then muster the courage to issue a proper statement on the Dillian Whyte situation.
Absolutely fine with it providing it is controlled and restricted to incidents that could affect the outcome of a fight. The WBC's rules cover: (a) whether a cut or other injury to the face is the result of a punch or otherwise; or (b) whether a punch is thrown after the bell signaling the end of a round and (c) in any major situation that can change the outcome of the bout and where the replay clearly shows the actions are contradictory to the live ruling of the referee. All pretty reasonable. It won't do anything to resolve bad decisions and bad refereeing (in general), but best to use the technology available when you can.
Yeah, this seems pretty sensible. Also agree with CTF though, BBBoC never commissioned the use of video assistance so Suliman has no right to go in and just change the decision like that. Right result or not, that really isn't on and it just shows how weak the BBBoC really are.
Is that definite? Sulaiman claimed on a video interview after the fight that Instant Replay was in effect and he was on the panel overseeing it. Not that I necessarily believe anything that Sulaiman says, but I haven't seen anything concrete to the contrary.
Agree. In most fights the refereeing and the decisions they make are fine but why not have a video replay option when the decisions of the referee are in question or he has missed a low blow, illegal shot, etc. The technology is there, use it when it's required.
What about if someone is stopped and it’s then ruled an accidental low blow. Do they just start fighting again minutes later?
They get the standard 5 minutes. I'm all for replays for KDs and cuts.. Whytes first KD against Parker is a perfect example imo. The question is then how do you score the round? The KD effects the rest of the round so I guess you just call it a 9-9?
it just depends on who is running it because the premier league are making a total arse it, blatant penalties and red cards not being given. Imagine Ian John Lewis and fat Terry O'connor being in charge of it.
VAR has been absolutely useless so far in the premier league. I think it will just create more controversy rather than end it.
The rules need to define what exactly happens. The WBC rules (http://wbcboxing.com/downloads/RULES_FOR_CHAMPIONSHIP_FIGHTS_-_SYNTHESIZED_09.pdf) don't do a great job of this to be honest. I would say if it's picked up within 5 minutes, and it's possible to restart the fight, that should happen. If it isn't possible, go to tech decision or no decision based on number of rounds completed. Either scenario is preferable to a stoppage loss due to a low blow.
They proved Saturday that even when they used the instant replay they couldn't come to the right decision, it should've been a DQ not a NC. As for the Premier League using VAR , what a shower of sh*t they are making of that.
With all the screwups we've seen, it obviously wouldn't hurt. Pretty sure Buatsi's BKO won't be overturned now, while VAR would have made it a NC on the spot. Edwards' NC after the KO3 would probably have been a DQ instead. And introducing it to boxing would have prevented many controversial outcomes. Parker vs Whyte Browne vs Kalajdzic Briedis vs Glowacki Rigo vs Flores Kovalev vs Ward 2 Dirrell vs Uzcat 1 And many more.
