Mercer will drop Silva with ease, the guy has no chin like most MMA fighters. As someone earlier pointed out, he's been outboxed/punched by grapplers for christ sakes. Yes, Mercer is like 47 or 48 yearsold now and fat, but he still can punch and does still remember the basics. If Mercer doesn't knock this guy out in round 1 I would be shocked.

Yeesh, is this going to turn into one of those "which is better, boxing or MMA" type debates.

Mercer is a senior citizen and Sylvia is a plodding, slow footed galoot.

If Sylvia ends up performing well and perhaps even winning, boxing fans will say Ray is totally washed up and the win means nothing.
If Mercer destroys Sylvia, then MMA fans will say that if it was an MMA match, Mercer would have no chance, so making it boxing rules only was totally unfair.

I think it's admirable anytime a fighter in either sport wants to crossover and try the other. Athletes often like to push themselves and try new challenges.
But, it's stupid to read too much into it, especially in a match like this one.

this is hilarious. Silvia is slow as molasses and has a Glass Jaw. Mercer should easily win this.

Yes, he's really only been truly hurt twice in the ring, both of which he was past prime and against fighters known for being extremely powerful in Wlad and Shannon Briggs. I doubt Silva has anything to even make Mercer worried, once he gets inside Tim's jab and gets on the inside, the fight will be over in a few seconds, once Mercer lands on Silva with a decent blow, he will hit the canvas, maybe get up and then will be knocked out cold with the next barrage of punches.

I followed Mercer for awhile now, and that guy has one hell of a killer instinct. He is known for knocking guys out before the ref could even step in and stop the fight. I remember watching him on FNF knock a guy out of the ring or that one time he seen the guy was pretty much out and almost on his knees, and Mercer wound up and threw a wicked hook that knocked him out cold before the ref could jump in to stop the fight. We all seen what he did to Morrison back in 93', which was maybe one of the more brutal knockouts I ever seen.

I like both boxing & MMA, Im certainly not anti-MMA but Tim is gonna get sparked, Id be shocked if Silvia beat Mercer in a boxing match, tho I think he`d beat him in an MMA fight.

If there was anybody afraid to fight stand-up in that fight it was Kimbo, he clearly avoided it and tried to muscle Mercer around, had Mercer landed a good punch we wouldn't have gotten the Kimbo hype show for 4 fights, so be happy.:yep
Mercer should KO Sylvia in the ring but with how much Mercer has went downhill I don't doubt Sylvia beating him.

This picture pretty much details the strengths and weaknesses of Sylvia.

I have a feeling Silvia is gonna win. Mercer is a shell of what he was. 10 years ago - sure, Mercer would kill him. People talk about MMA guys having glass chins, but they're fighting with tiny gloves and you can't really compare the two. Silvia is gonna give him a tough time, and despite Mercer being a formerly very skilled boxer - it doesn't make him some superhero with lightning reflexes and an automatic victory over the MMA guy. I think he's too old and too small to make his eroded skills have a meaningful impact.

I'll be rooting for Mercer, that's for sure - but I gotta bad feeling about this one.

If Mercer has anything left - he should beat Tim's sloped head in.

Mercer looked like crap against Kimbo Slice though. Mercer got manhandled by a glorified street thug who was making his MMA debut. With all the years and years of boxing experience that Mercer had going into the Kimbo fight, and even with the few K-1? fights he had, he should have been able to handle Kimbo.

Mercer always seems to find a way to lose!
