I have to say that MMA looks like a complete load of rubbish. It's hard to believe that the American people have bought into this. It's a sad indictment of what your society has become.atsch
Clearly the creator of this video is bias towards boxing by showing us exciting moments in the boxing footage and simultaneously giving us not so exciting footage of the MMA. That being said I personally am a huge boxing fan and maybe a little less than a casual fan of MMA. For me the best part of MMA is when the fighters are standing up and striking with their fists and there isn't nearly enough of it to appease me. What really gets under my skin is when a fighter who has been thoroughly beaten is reduced to choking and manages to pull off an unlikely victory via "rear naked choke". To me that is a dispicable and cheap "SCAPEGOAT" victory. And it's nothing like boxing when a badly beaten fighter manages to land a big punch to escape with a KO because landing and avoiding punches is the object of the sport and is fundamentaly the purest part of fighting; where as most of us are taught at a young age that choking is wrong. Now all that said MMA does at times put on entertaining bouts and they certainly have fighters who have much appeal. Last month the WEC televised a match with a guy name Urijah Faber vs Jen Pulzer which was a very entertaining fight. And on the under card a guy named Miguel Torres put on a terricfic fight. The sport does have its moments of appeal but like I said the lack of continuious standup fist striking is why I'll never except it as boxings equal. Here's a good piece of footage of Lou Dibella argueing with Joe Rogan on ESPN on the subject of Boxing vs MMA. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msIUEKBmVEI
showed some boring moments of MMA and the greatest boxing moments, load of ****, MMA is more exciting but I do like boxing once in a while. MMA has so many elements to it that the true well rounded fighters are way more impressive than boxers.
Although It's obvious that the starter simply found footage of a bias comparison, I do think that MMA is frustrating to watch. The first time I watched it I was excited at the prospect of 2 guys bringing the best of their chosen discipline, but I quickly found that too many fights simply degenerate into rolling around on the ground. I have tried and re-tried so many times to enjoy MMA, but recently saw one fighter desperately try to keep the fight vertical but it was just too easy for the other guy to drag him to the floor where they wouldn't do much at all for the next 100+ seconds. And that's the problem, it only takes one of them to want to wrestle, and so it becomes a dull wrestling match. So that's it for me, I'm not going to bother wasting my time with it anymore after the 10th attempt.
I sort of agree with your post in terms of my attempt to watch UFC. I'm at the point with UFC that I am interested in some of the fighters and bigger fights, but not enough to actually buy the ppv. I'll look at threads, and wait for updates, etc. As far as your critique of MMA style, and the rolling around on the ground, that's what some people like about it. Some people say that's more of an art then two guys with gloves on standing toe to toe trying to punch each other. They'll say more is involved, or whatever. It's a valid reason for you personally not liking it, but I think those that like it are intrigued by that part the same way you and I would be while watching a fighter work the jab and controlling the center of the ring. Not trying to degrade your answer, and in fact, I agree with most of it. It's just that I feel it's trying to compare apples and oranges, they are entirely different things. I think it's possibly to like both of them without feeling like you are "cheating," on the other.
