I think MMA has tremendous potential, but I hate how it's marketed. Way too WWE -like. Every time I watch it, each fighter's talking smack, and not even interesting smack. It also looks bad to me for UFC that it's HW Champ is a former WWE guy and football washout. The best boxers aren't guys who came on the scene 5 minutes ago from baseball or some other sport. How prestigous can a title be if a guy holding it has been in the sport about 3 years? Boxers are, generally speaking, much better at boxing than most MMA guys are at MMA. I kinda liked the earlier days of MMA where guys who were dedicated specialists in their resepctive skills were the top and that was the whole dynamic, analyzing these interesting karate vs mui thai type matchups. Now it's jacks of all trades, and usually master at none. Fedor is the truth. There's lots more that I would pay good money to see. Once they work out some kinks, it'll be much better. It's grown on me.
You can't compare two different sports. I love boxing, don't really watch mma due to the hugging and grappling. It's like football and baseball you can have some crossover guys but for the most part it's way different training.
Exactly if a crude and limited bum like Lidell was able to dominate then a club fighter could as well. I think in a few years you'll find alot more boxing washouts will go into UFC and have success. The only thing they need to learn is takedown defense.
This crap doesn't belong anywhere near regular boxing. It's bad enough it has infested our sport as much as it has. :-( What a joke this garbage is. Mercer showed it too! He's BEYOND washed up and he took out one of these glass-jawed bums in 9 seconds!!:rofl:rofl
limited? perhaps. but it is extremely refined striking. and much more pleasing to the eye than a UFC fight. boxing doesn't try to emulate a street fight. it's a sport. but kickboxing/k-1 is awesome
I agree I just wanted it there so we could bash the hell out of the UFC and get a good laugh at its expense.:yep Thank You Ray Mercer for making these glass jawed bums see the light he should get inducted into the boxing HOF for this alone.:rofl Boxing > UFC
Not to mention you can't come in off the street with little or no expericence and become a world champ in boxing but you can in the UFC that right there tells you everything you need to know about this so-called sport.:deal
Pimp C is telling it like it is on this thread. I'm not saying I'm anything special or that in the boxing ring, but I competed in some golden glove tournaments when I was in my teens and finished with a good record when I stopped fighting competitively when I turned 20. I currently spar with 2 guys who have had MMA fights and go to ohio for them. I will say this much, both Ron and Bob have amazing stamina, and would of out winded me in my prime years of boxing. Though these guys cant take a punch to save there lives, we use 16 oz gloves to spar. And it seemed anytime I would put my weight behind a punch, they either got rocked or took a knee. It was pretty sad IMO, when I asked Bob "Dont you guy's take punches in sparring?" He replied "Yeah, but the guys we work with dont punch like that". I been working with both guys for a couple years now, the one is has a pretty decent record , the other is like 0-3 and seems like he cant catch a break in his matches. Overall there stamina is amazing, but there punch resistence is down right terrible and almost made me want to jump into MMA fighting without anything but a boxing background, thinking with 4 oz gloves I would knockout alot of these guys before they would get me into any type of weird holds. I dont know, after going to a few of their tournaments and watching not only them first hand, but other fighters matches. I believe alot of boxers would do well in MMA action, thats just my opinion though.
