    Julio Cesar Chavez defeated Angel Hernandez by TKO rd 5
    defending his WBC Light Welter title in Mexico City.
    Chavez won and defended this title 19 times before losing to De La Hoya
    by TKO in 1996.

    Ippy has Chavez at 47 on his Top 100 list.

    Dave Sands W/P 12 Don Mullett. Petone New Zealand.

    Dave Sands again tackled the Kiwi in December of 1950 in Wellington. Mullett, a pretty capable fighter, took Sands the 12 round journey again. Unfortunately, it was a thrid match with Mullett at Leichardt Stadium that Sands and Co. were heading off to training camp for when the tragic accident took his life.

    Oscar de la Hoya defeated Pernell Whitaker by UD 12
    to win the WBC Welter title in Las Vegas.
    Whitaker had previously successfully defended this title 8 times.
    both boxers were Olympic Gold Medalists in the LW division.

    12th April 2008

    Antonio Margarito defeated Kermit Cintron by KO in the 6th round
    to win the IBF Welter title in Atlantic City.

    Hall of Fame referee Arthur Mercante, the third man in the ring for the first Ali-Frazier fight died on Saturday, aged 90. Mecante refereed a total of 145 world title fights.

    Tony Mundine Snr (Australia) v Bunny Stirling (Jamaican born) - Milton Tennis Courts, Brisbane.
    Mundine wins Stirling's Commonwealth middleweight title by stoppage in 15th and final round.
    Their meeting the year before in Sydney, also for Stirling's Commonwealth title, ended in a draw.
