You don't know how hard I searched Google for a picture of Arum handing over the brown paper bag with the $100k in it to Lee - it just aint there!

(did stumble on a picture of Limp-Wrist-Louie sniffing bike seats at the Tour De France but it was off topic)

Tim Witherspoon v Frank Bruno - Wembley Stadium, London, UK.

‘Terrible’ Tim retains his WBA heavyweight title by KO in round 11 of 12.

This was the first of 3 attempts at world titles that would result in KO losses for Bruno.

On his 4th attempt at a world title, Bruno would outpoint Oliver McCall. But sadly Bruno would be KO’ed into retirement on his 1st title defence by Mike Tyson.

Bruno always looked like a body builder. Unfortunately he moved like one too, very inflexible.

Most trainers these days discourage heavy weights for that very reason.

Jack Dempsey v Jack Sharkey - Yankee Stadium, Bronx, New York, United States

Dempsey won by KO in round 7 of 15 in what was a world title eliminator.

When asked why he struck Sharkey (with the knockout blow) while Sharkey was complaining to the referee, Dempsey replied, “What was I supposed to do, write him a letter?”

After winning this eliminator, which was Dempsey’s last win, he went on to fight Gene Tunney in the final bout of his career, for the heavyweight title.

    Danny Green
v Paul Briggs - Challenge Stadium, Perth, WA.

Whether we like it or not, this is already a part of Australian boxing history, and unfortunately one that will very likely never go away.

A snapshot from perhaps the saddest 28 seconds in Australian boxing history!

Tony Galento, boxer/actor dies at 69.

‘Two-Ton’ Tony was a character the likes of which boxing has seen very few. An overweight, cigar smoking, beer drinking fighting machine.

(in the picture above Tony’s the one on the right)

‘Two-Ton’ Tony was far more capable in the ring than his appearance suggested, as his career figures of 80 wins (57 by KO), 26 losses and 5 draws suggest.

Galento’s movie credits include ‘On the Waterfront’, and he became a bar owner and after-dinner speaker.
