I understand what your saying mate but you can't blame SRL for all this catchweight shut as it's been going on throughout the history of the sport . Do you hate Hopkins as much for dragging Pavlik up to What ? 170lbs ? Leonard was a player i'n the game not the game itself .

That was the problem with Leonard post '82...he thought he was the game

Catchweight fights should be non title IMO. Was Hopkins - Pavlik for a 175 title? If so, the authorities should be over-riding this garbage so not to give one fighter an unfair advantage

    Strongly agree with that.

There are so many bloody divisions these days they don't need further stuffing with, particular when titles are on the line (even if they are in the main alphabet anyway).

No mate Pavlik v Hopkins want for a title but my point was throughout history fighters in the driving seat call the shots , SRL wasn't the first and won't be the last , I used Hopkins as an example , When he fought Calzaghe for the Ring title he determine the weight , location , the nationality of the ref and judges he was acting as much a primadonna as SRL ever was but I hear no objections to it because it's Bhop .

Fighters demanding and receiving a pile of advantages has the effect of distorting boxing history and I don't like it. I'm not sure if Pavlik would have beaten Hopkins if there was a level playing field but Hopkins is now receiving plaudits as a top 5 middleweight based partly on fights such as this. He's nowhere near top 5 IMO but his (distorted) stats say he maybe should be

Fighters that make these demands are arseholes and fighters that accept them deserve to be beaten as they're usually doing it solely for the money. Short term gain to the detriment of the sport

No wonder people are looking to other combat sports rather than boxing. I'm not one of them but I've definitely gone off the sport in the past 10 or so years because of these types of issues

    Yours sincerely

emeritus super wba/wbc/ibf/wbo/ibc/wbf etc etc titleholder in an undefined weight class

Great post Bollox , BH insisted on Pavlik skipping an entire weight division with his demands ( More fool team Pavlik IMO ) it does distort the history of the sport , left to me the sport would return to the original 8 divisions and the best fight the best if your a cruiserweight for example you either fight @ heavy or L/Heavy for example same would gave gone for Joe he would have had to fight at middle at the start then move up to L/ Heavy to finish .

With the HW's getting bigger over the year the cruiserweight division was always going to be needed at some point. 175 to say 230, is too big a jump. Look what happened to Bob Foster every time he took on the HW's

Yep, bringing back the original weight classes would be a good start. it's odd when thinking that in days gone by kids could name them all, and considered them heroes

Yeah, in the old days it was fairly easy to recite almost all the titleholders names, and in the popular divisions, who they'd won the title from as well.

Greed, greed and more greed will ensure boxing never gets back to being the sport it was. Oh for those days of less titles, less titleholders and MORE champions.

Supermiddle is a division that had to happen...it's common for some blokes to be too big for middle...too small for Lightheavy.

...Monzon & Briscoe at the scales.

The scorecards were probably more one sided than the fight itself. The ATG Monzon was able to avenge a 10-round draw he fought with Briscoe over 5 years earlier.

Our own Tony Mundine Snr fought both Monzon & Briscoe in 1974.
