I was thinking about this today. As the medical world progresses and we further understand the connections between impact trauma and diseases like Parkinson's or brain damage it is only inevitable that boxing will die out.

I can't see why anyone would want to suffer later on in life despite the financial gain.

Who knows... maybe boxing will be banned at some point because of the risk it causes to health..

Sad because i love the sport but i think it's inevitable

    I dunno.. just random thoughts...

    Opinions?

If medical threatment improves by science thus resulting in patients recovering better or cured then its worth the risk.
Its time big parts of America become poor again and some gyms open then we can get boxing back on a big level.

hood niggs have the get money at any cost attitude and lack other roads to better their lives will always be down to box for $.

A good fight will always attract people.

We might no longer produce fights from 1st world countries, but we'll always have foreigners from 3rd world countries down to fight. It'll be like how Romans used other people as their gladiators.

Maybe you're right, but I don't think so. I don't think anyone gets into this sport thinking that they have made an informed decision about their health that they otherwise wouldn't with more information. Folks may find out more about the exact problems that can occur, but I think we already get the gist of it. It's a dangerous sport.

I think it's way more likely that it gets banned than I see it dying out due to medical advances.

I just read a nice article about the flood of new boxers walking into gyms in the US - or at least Ohio. With school funding being cut for sports a new demand for boxing gyms has been created.

Very true, but it has already happened in the United States. I don't know if you are an American, but why do you think American athletic kids QUIT Boxing and went into Football and Basketball? Ali showed America the connection between impact trauma and Parkinson's.

Ali is the main reason why guys don't want to be hit. Why do you think there are no Boxing clubs for kids in America? Boxing is a sport where brain damage is a guaranteed not a possibility. It is also a sport that kids need to start early. That combination is killing US Boxing or at least reducing participation.

American Football is the one that the truth is slowly coming out. The NFL does a great job of hiding the bad outcomes.

actually yes there have been calls to ban football, due to recent studies and the links of repeated blows to the head and athletes suffering from Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy its been a huge duscussion about the safety of these sports

To be honest... I don't see this "Health concious society" I just see everybody getting fatter and fatter and people getting lazier due to simplified methods of every day living.

If anything, boxing should be more marketed as a way to maintain a healthy living. Although, many people, including myself, would much rather just sit down and play Fight Night Champion on the Xbox 360 or PS3.

Anyway, boxing has actually dramatically improved all of its health and safety things. There are medicals and tests, all sorts of things. There are more injuries caused in Golf than in Boxing. FACT!

Statistically Golf is one of the most dangerous sports in the world by that logic, be careful swinging those clubs folks! :good

Risk averse not healthy. Boxing the damage comes after going through hard work. Becoming fat the damage comes after enjoying stuffing your face.

What are the severity of the injuries though? :think

there's more poor parts now then ever, just less hungry boxing talent therein and less gyms to train them in. do believe there will be less popularity w boxing (if that's possible) due to more knowledge about brain damage and concussions in general but don't think sport will ever die and there will be advancements in counteracting treating brain injuries

Contact sports are dangerous. That's the attraction. They will not be banned unless interest in the sport completely disappears. As long as $$$ is to be made these sports will continue to exist, and in most cases, thrive.
