Complete and utter bull****. So your arguing that if a fighter as good as Pac existed in the 80´s in the Filipines that he would have been overlooked?
YES!!!!!!!!!!!! Pacquiao discovery was by complete chance. Why is it only now that you see Pinoys. IT IS BECAUSE OF PACMAN!!! All the Pinoys knew what Pacquiao was going to do to Barrera because we knew his caliber. We knew no way Gerry P was getting koed by De Leon because only Pinoys have seen him. We knew Amonsot was going to do better than what people thought againts Katsidis. Donaire shocked us though when he won. These people are just poppin up left and right, arent they. Where were they before. Promotors now see a little bit of marketability with pinoys, specially pitted againts Mexicans. Gerry is about retire and just beat Jhonny Gonzales for the belt. Where was he all these years??? He shouldve been fighting Mexicans, blacks whoever long time ago. Pinoys are just showing up right now. Use your coconut and think about it.
The 80's Pac may have still been noticed, in the 80's cuz that weight class wasnt as popular and purses not that big. Espinosa, Navarrete was the 80's to the P.I.
I disagree. On one hand your telling me that you have a great boxing tradition there, which you do going back to Pancho Villa and Flash Elorde, and on the other hand your saying that Filipino fighters have been ignored for years because they are not promotable? If there have been tons of boxers over there who have been ignored, tell me about them, show me some footage of them. Just saying that there have been great fighters who would be champions if give publicity doesnt fly.
The point is they were overlooked because there was no such fighter like PAC. And more important is they would be overlooked today if PAC doesn't exist. If there was no PAC then it would be no hype for Bautista and he would be just regular green prospect getting up. There would be also no World Cups and nobody would even know who the Pinoy boxers are. So PAC stock is working for all the average Piony boxers so they can participate in so called "Wolrd Cup" and show what they wouldn't be able to show on the regular basis.
correct. he just contradicted himself in one page! Not only that, gerry was already a wbc champ but people thought he didnt have a chance because of his age, not due to his lack of skill. dpl admitted he took gerry lightly though.:yep
1.how to climb over borders 2.how to box 3.how to drink joke# but it werent a set up but like when usa vs uk happened the matchmaking was pretty bad
And why would the Philipines only not be promotable. We have had fighters from tons of countries over the years that became champions, for example Arguello from Nicaragua, Duran from Panama, Monzon from Argentina, etc. Those countries are not near the US-Mexico border, so explain the rise fo those fighters. If a fighter is great, he is going to make it out to become a champion. Hell even Edison Miranda made it from eating rats on the streets of Colombia to being on HBO, so whats the difference?
So your telling me that it is pure coincidence that all of a sudden fighters from the Philippines are now showed on U.S. television showing they deserved to be fighting these type of fights and that it is only now that the Philippines had these type of fighters? Only now that the Philippines is being swamped by American promoters because it is only now that the Philippines developed blood and guts fighters that actually can make for exciting fights and show they can hang with the best of them. Now thats what I call BULL****.
So youre saying that if pac wasnt around, the would be no interest in boxing in the phils. Therefore, boxers like buatista wouldnt get no hype from filipinos and as a result, would go unnotice. whose fault is that?
:huh So explain the rise and fame of Pac. There was no star to pave the road for him as he is doing for Bautista. He was just a great fighter who fought his way out of the ghetto, simple as that.
Discrimination... Latinos are more marketable to westerners. How many asian popstars do you see. If you aint a kung fu master or a pretty asian chick forget it. If a talented one came yall would be like damn, I didnt know asians had people that could dance and sing.
Gerry Penalosa was overlooked wasnt he. Pac was almost overlooked. If Mexico had a fighter like Gerry P. believe me he wouldnt have been overlooked.
No, boxers are getting more exposure becuase there is more interest for boxing in the phils. blame yourself for not supporting boxing before manny as the reason your boxers not getting the exposure you felt they deserved.
