Also fighters like Z gorres who was robbed againts Montiel, Concepcion, and Banal would NEVER been given the type of shots or exposure they are getting right now. These kids have tons of potential and they all have Manny P to thank for that.

mexicans get opportunities in boxing because the turn out A LOT of good/great boxers. if the phils can do the same, expect those promoters to stay in the phils to continue scouting boxers. boom boom didnt help matter any im afraid.:yep

 

So at least I get an acknowledgement from you that the Filipino fighters have a lack of deserved exposure. America is the holy grail of boxing we just never had the numbers to make the networks or promoters money to give a damn about showcasing Pinoys. We showed our numbers that are ever increasing and spending power when Pacquiao rolled around.

 

No, what Im telling you is that if any of these fighters was a good as Pac, they would have made it on their own to become stars IN ANY ERA! I will agree that Pac has created publicity for lesser fighters in the Filipines.

You original arguement was that the fighters from the Filipines would have been dominant throughout if given publicity, I think thats total bull****. No other fighter from the country is or has been as great as Pac in recent years and therefore THEY HAVENT EARNED THE PUBLICITY. There are other fighters there with a lot of of potential which may be great also, but none have surpassed Pac.

What some of you flip fans dont understand (which is understandable give that some of you started watching the sport recently) is that boxing works in cycles. Fighters from the Filipines are dominant now because they are great. The cycle will move on and fighters will again be dominant from Puerto Rico, Mexico, the U.S. etc., and there will be times when the Filipines receeds, its an ebb and flow and it allways has been.

Villa, Elorde, and Pac come around once in a lifetime. It doesnt mean that the entire country can fight or that their boxers will be dominant forever. Stick around a while, you will see.

 

Calzaghe chooses to fight in Europe because there is more money for him there because thats where his fans are at. For Mexicans there fans are in the U.S. or right across the boarder. Unfortunately for a third world country like the P.i. the money to be made is in the U.s. as well with supporting fans thousands of miles away. If you can't see that boxing is a business then you are blind.

 

Champion Gerry Penalosa is only a champion because of this Pinoy TREND. Look out for AJ Banal and Concepcion etc. Youlll understand that these kids woulda never made it had it not been for Pacs exposure of Pinoy talent. You cant see it its fine. BUT ITS THE TRUTH.

 

They would be hyped in Phillipines on the local level.
There is no big money in Philipines, money is in US and Mexico or
Puerto Rico have much larger communities in US than Filipinos.
Would be Mijares popular in US if he fought in Phillipines?
He had great exposure so far fighting on Spanish PPV which was boradcasted in US.

Many factors go into a fighters popularity. Penalosa has a slick style which I love but which doesnt draw a lot of fans (especially Mexican ones).

There are plenty of Mexican fighters (even champs) who are not popular here in the states. If Penalosa had double fisted KO power and a charasmatic personality to go with his sweet moves he would be a star, whether from the Filipines or wherever.

Lets take a fighter like Ivan Calderon for example. He is undeniably great but will never be hugely popular due to his style. Meanwhile Trinidad and Cotto are hugely popular yet still from the island of Puerto Rico.

 

No, I never said they arent getting the exposure they deserve. I said the spotlight is now shinning on them because of pacman. You feel that all up and coming fighters in the phils should be put on tv, yet thats up to you and your people to show interest so promoters can sell the fights. Like acb said, if they are as good as pacman, they will be noticed.

 

So your saying its Marketability then right. Thats what I've been trying to say. But anyway the subject of this whole thread was that Pinoys beating Mexicans in the World Cup was a set up. People still can't accept the facts and are still surprised that Filipinos can compete because they havent really heard of or seen enough of Pinoys. There are thousands of Gyms in the Philippines, Mexico only got a taste of one. The WC was all ALA boys who fought so it was more like the ALA boys againts Mexico.

 

Im not arguing that Pac hasnt given fighters more exposure on the island.

What Im arguing against is the idea that flip fighters have allways been better than Mexican fighters but just havent been given their shot because the US shares a border with Mexico.

Great fighters are not given shots anyways, they take their shots, just like Pac did.

 

Its up the filipinos to support their fighters like mexicans, rican, and americans do. tell me, in the world cup, how many non filipinos knew about the filipinos fighters that participated in the event?

 

He wasnt overlooked, everyone has heard of Finito, but I bet you never knew about Gerry until De Leon.
