I saw one mention of Ingemar Johansson. Nobody else could knock Eddie Machen out the way he did it; Liston, Frazier included. That right hand of Johansson's made things happen when it landed. Patterson found that out. Too bad Ingo hadn't had a stronger set of whiskers or maybe we would be comparing him to Marciano, Louis and the other greats of the heavyweight division.

  2. it prove absolutely nothing, chuvalo knocked quarry out and shavers could not do it, so according to you chuvalo was harder puncher than shavers...:nut and frazier stopped machen late, machen was down.

i think it's a decent point that ingo had a solid enough right hand to do what many couldn't. problem is he had absolutely nothing except a 1-2 combo. that's his entire game

  4. of course, ingo was a hard puncher but liston was harder puncher(and ingo could ko machen and liston could not). every fight is different and every style is different, it is not just about who is harder puncher.

can't argue with that. ingo was nowhere NEAR liston's league. from most report, he caught machen cold. it's been known to happen

P4P its Hearns on the strength of the Duran KO alone.

How can any fighters' right hand compare to Julian Jackson's? He literally had many opponents out cold for long after the ten count. Joe Louis is also up there, but no fighter in history can compare to Jackson in terms of 1-punch KO power, including Hearns, Benn and McClellan.

GREATEST PUNCHERS EVER (no particular order):

    George Foreman
    Earnie Shavers
    Julian Jackson
    Tommy Hearns
    Gerald McClellan
    Nigel Benn
    Sandy Saddler
    Joe Louis
    Bob Fitzsimmons
    Mike Tyson
    Jack Dempsey
    Sonny Liston
    etc

    Also, Malignaggi.

  8. i think that mugabi was a bit harder puncher than jackson but it was very close. mugabi had more kos in the round 1 in less fights.

Thomas Hearns and Julian Jackson are givens. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Randall Bailey. "The Knockout King", a fairly average boxer by all accounts, lacking exceptional speed, defensive wizardry or outstanding technical ability, has built a career consisting of an 88% knockout ratio on the back of one single weapon - his straight right. He dropped the iron-chinned Urango for the first time in his career, who then said he'd never been hit as hard as Bailey hit him. He also dropped the tough Demarcus Corley with the same punch. To say nothing of this stunning one-punch knockout of Figueroa.

In this KO of Bonsu, it's the left hook that puts him down, but the straight right freezes him immediately in place. He'd have gone down even if the left didn't land.

He also drops Said Ouali near the end of this clip with the same single punch.
