I quite liked how Steve Gray patted Fitz across his stomach after the result was announced, like it was a deserved dig towards both Fowler and Hearn, like you beat the corruption. Hearns gutted interview, where all he talked about for 95% of it was about Fowler, confirmed for me the pat.
That win is right up there with Joshua vs Ruiz 1, Joshua vs Usyk and Fury vs Wilder 2 for some of my favourite fights over the last few years. Brilliant result. Such a shame that Fitz hasn't kicked on really and had his own battles. Sadly I think his career peaked that night - but it's a fight many will remember forever.
I really like Gareth. I don't think he takes himself too seriously, I also like his interviews - seems to develop a good relationship with the fighters and asks much more interesting things than many interviewers.
He does look a bit like a Sasha Baron Cohen parody character but I think he's great. Knows his stuff too. The sport needs a few characters like him.
Hahahahahaha yeah he does. I think he just has the odd moment when he sort of let's himself down, like when he said Ebanie Bridges could be the female Ali, stuff like that don't help him but you're right he does know his stuff. He is also extremely knowledgeable when it does to MMA too.
True. That was a silly comment, I'd like to think he simply meant that she could create a big following and lots of new eyes to the sport.. but it's a stupid comment either way. Even if that were the case, it would just be lots of horny men who are simply interested in her because she's attractive and fairly likeable.
Yeah I know, I sort of understood what he was saying. Like you said, he was just saying she could have a huge influence on women's boxing. But in an age where soundbites and video titles are everything you'd think he would have worded it a little better. He ha mentioned it though and sort of laughed at himself, I think he knows he made a bit of an error LOL But that aside, I agree, he knows his stuff, he asks tough questions, he will stick his face in front of a raging Wilder and won't buckle. That's all we can ask from a reporter really.
There's also that priceless video of him playfighting with Carl Froch. Takes quite a lot to genuinely make me laugh but that does every single time. This content is protected
hahaha great hamstrings for his age. Whoever said “he binned me” at the end like Chisora’s he glassed me made me laug. For me the Froch and Babic proposals are as bad as it gets.
I’ve just remembered at a Dillian Whyte conference (think it was Rivas?) they wheeled Barry out to do it instead of Eddie and he was dreadfully embarrassing, talking about treating boxers likes slaves in the past.
Aye he can happily ride off into the sunset for me. In a way it'll be funny if he does just call it a day and Fowler can never avenge the loss. My top 4 is: Fowler (v Fitzgerald) Bellew (v Usyk) Whyte (v Povetkin 1) Courtenay (v Ball) They'll all be blown out of the water the day Conor Benn gets flattened though.
