asero, I must disagree. There are some great series mentioned here, but too many of these series have a superior fighter. Harada didn't lose to Jofre. Barrera seems to have Morales' number. Robinson only lost once against Lamotta. Pryor never lost to Arguello. Saddler clearly had Pep's number, as did Charles against Moore. Then there is Jones vs Toney. Ali and Frazier is a much better choice than some of your others.
Pretty good list Asero. :good At welterweight I'd say Ted Kid Lewis vs. Jack Britton was the greatest rivalry. There's been other great ones too like Barney Ross vs. Jimmy McLarnin, Kid Gavilan vs. Billy Graham, Emile Griffith vs. Luis Rodriguez etc. At 140, you'd have to go with Carlos Ortiz vs. Duilio Loi I reckon. At lightweight I think Joe Gans vs. Battling Nelson has to be up there, as does Tony Canzoneri vs. Jackie Kid Berg. Esteban DeJesus vs. Roberto Duran of course is up there as well. Might have gone with Gilberto Roman vs. Santos Laciar at 115.
yah i forgot the classic more or less 20 fights between lewis and britton...just want to ask why lewis is ranked way ahead of britton in almost every list. i just really feel that the armstrong and ambers are the greatest rivalry at 135. the rivalry had almost everything..their fights are almost personal and bloody as well
No Duran/Leonard skill wise was much better, but intensity wise Britton/Lewis is arguably the greatest rivalry in world class boxing, so either/or is fine with me. Also great rivalries in boxing can have only one fight, sometimes none. At Welterweight after Hearns beat Cuevas, Hearns/Leonard was massive for a year. Honeyghan and Starling hated each other for years, always taking press shots at each other, but when they fought it was a blow out. Lewis and Bowe were rivals for over five years, yet never fought as pros; Duran and Arguello were long rime rivals who never fought, ditto Sanchez/Pedroza, all IMO were at least very good rivalries. At Heavyweight I think Louis/Schmeling has to top Ali/Frazier just because the second Louis/Schmeling fight was arguably the most historic in boxing history, Also Johnson/Jeffries may top Ali/Frazier because of historic importance.
for SMW i think Reid Calzaghe is better they hated each other it was a close fight and a good fight better than topney jones jr
Yeah, 2-1 would certainly suggest that :nut Especially when the clearest win of the 3 fights was won by Morales (fight 2 for those that have been in a coma) even tho boxing politics had different ideas.
