I don't know anybody familar with that rivalry who didn't enjoy those contests, or the sense of camaradery, mutual respect and admiration frequently displayed among competitors like Ross and McLarnin. These were inspiring exchanges, greatly admired among a Depression stricken public. Too bad modern rival boxers don't usually conduct themselves in this way.
You know Budd Schulberg actually went to one of the Ross McLarnin bouts, can't be many still alive can claim that
This was actually a quadrilogy w/ Griffith winning their initial (non-title) encounter on points prior to winning the title from Paret. This content is protected Zale-Hostak sounds like it was a great trilogy, though unfortunately, only the 1st fight appears to be on film (that I'm aware of). This content is protected In their rematch, Zale broke down Hostak over 13 grueling rounds, & in their brief but explosive 3rd fight, they traded KDs before Zale stopped Hostak in 2.
Tony Lopez vs. John John Molina is a criminally underrated trilogy that doesn't get much talk today. In their 1st fight, Molina floored Lopez early & built up an early lead, but then took his foot off the gas (a la DeLaHoya-Tito) & lost a close, disputed decision. In the 2nd, Molina put on one of his best career performances & overwhelmed Lopez en route to a cuts stoppage. In the nail-biting rubber match, Lopez turned up the heat down the stretch & scored a late KD to pull out a decision.
