Panama's got to be a good shout, how many people live there? I agree about the Anglo American/European thing as well.

Yeah Australia foe example has relatively few home born World champions while countries with small populations like Ireland and Nicaragua have done well.

Former Soviet states? They haven't been in the pro scene long but have certainly caught up. Germany if you include guys like Rocchigiani, Michalewski, Klits, Schmeling, Maske, Schultz...

forgive my ignorance but what's with all the Japanese fighters? surly this is basically more recent years and among 'smaller' fighters. but Overall Historically they haven't contributed too many fighters to the larger pool have they?

Harada, Wajima, Shirai and Gushiken were all active champs about forty to sixty years ago. Altogether they have over eighty World champions.

yes but mainly in recent times.

so even though they have numerous champs in all of the dissected lower divisions and among numerous Sanctioning Bodies, they haven't contributed significantly to the Historical Pool...

Might depend where in the world you are sitting?
Also is this limited to the higher weight categories?

NO Matt, it's ALL Boxing's Leading Nations.

their OVERALL Historic Placement FIRST in terms of numbers of TOP Noted fighters, as I've stated.

then once a 'General' list is put together, smaller contributors like Japan would get a considered placement for how well they've done despite their much less pool of fighters overall. see what I mean.

I don't understand how this is confusing.

I mean we all know without thinking about it 'Who' the Leading Nations are Historically = Countries that have contributed the Most TOP fighters overall - Champs & Contenders alike.

i.e the USA, Britain, Mexico and so on.

then once that list is more or less a consensus, we can make a list of Newer or Smaller Nations (number of fighters wise), and add or not them to the Overall excepted List of Boxing's Leading Nations.

it's not at all complicated, at least I didn't think it was.

It's just that as I understand it, Japan for example has produced far more World class boxers than Australia? No problem, I suspect I must be interpreting this thread wrongly.

    that's right Matt,

but Australia has given MORE in Numbers of Top Rated & Noted fighters over the years, yes?

so Australia would be listed among the Leading Nations in general and then after the fact we could look at the second list of Japan types Nations and ask whether Japan should be added to the Overall Historic list in place of Australia or another, using your example.
