A lot of the time, journeymen are seen as tomato cans or fodder for most prospects to blast through, gaining fight experience in the pro ranks and hopefully some rounds along the way. However, there have been some fine boxers considered 'journeymen' who have been known to cause prospects some issues. Who are your most talented journeymen from past to present? Can be from any weight class too.
Bert Cooper is one of my favorites. Was very often involved in very good scraps. Lots of opponents swear he hit like a truck. Freddie Pendleton. Fought some greats. Mike "The Bounty" Hunter. Darnell Boone. If for no other reason, his ko of Stevenson. edit: I should legit put the bong down. You said most skilled. lol. Apologies.
James J Braddock and Jersey Joe Walcott both spent periods as journeymen. Journeyman is pretty vague though, it can mean anything from someone with a few losses to decent contenders, to the guy that's 2-12, most of the losses being KOs.
Buck Smith from "the Midwest Circuit" 181 20 2 121 KOs Wins 9 KOs losses Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA http://boxrec.com/en/boxer/6117
Pendleton was a beltholder, not a journeyman. Boone also dropped Ward and Kovalev. It's too bad he wasn't a properly developed fighter.
Teddy Reid was always fun to watch. He had some skills, whcih he usually abandoned midway through a fight.
