In mainstream, Canelo and more less Broner were hyped to be the future superstars of boxing. After their past few fights, its obvious this won't be the case. I'll go out on a limb and say GGG and Kovalev will be the dominant figures in boxing moving ahead, but lack the charisma and eager opponents to solidify supers****om. Anyone else worth a shout? I like Keith Thurman and Errol Spence but they haven't fought any solid contenders at this point.
II hate to say this but... those two guys are once in a lifetime kind of boxers. Alvarez is hyped up but he's not a particularly skilled boxer. So i don't think you need to be at Mayweather's and Pacquiao's level to be the next big star. You just need to be pretty good. Alvarez is pretty good but not elite level. He's a ppv attraction i guess because he's young, mexican and ginger. It's mainly because he's mexican and got brought along very well. I don't see Thurman being the next big star. I just don't see the marketability. Terence Crawford might be but he's as boring as you come. I guess it doesn't matter when his boxing does the talking for him. I don't see anybody able to match Mayweather and Pacquiao in terms of marketability. I think Golovkin could be in the future after he has bigger fights and wins them. But he is 32 and is perhaps too old to break out as the next big superstar of boxing in terms of a ppv attraction.
The next big star of boxing needs to beat a legend like Mayweather or Pacquiao. I think it would propel them to higher things. A bit like when Floyd and Manny fought Oscar.
Crawford's charisma is ehh...But back to boxing. A few more KO's and big wins he'll be there...and we'll get suckered into watching his boring style (helluva boxer tho).
Here are quite a few potential stars. Big if but I think Fury is entertaining outside of the ring. Chisora 2 was certainly a masterpiece even though Chisora's level is questionable (2nd tier imo for this error).
LOL no harm done. I've been reading everyone's posts for a few months now and decided to take a humble approach. I've only ran track and played american football. Never set foot in a ring (yet). So if all fails idksab (yet). And anyone else who hasn't should reconsider their position (not directed at anyone, just making a point).
