It probably hasn't escaped your notice, boxers usually die pretty early. When they do not die suddenly from an accident or murder, it is quite rare to see them pass the age of 80. We can still find some exceptions: - Nino Benvenuti, WBC and WBA super welter and middleweight champion between 1965 and 1970 is still around at 83 years old. Apart from Tom Bethea, who is younger than him, all of his great opponents are long dead. - George Chuvalo, former challenger known for his fights against Ali and especially Patterson, is still alive at 84 years old despite a life filled with family tragedies. A real force of nature in my opinion. - Chuck Wepner, known for his world weight championship against Ali who inspired the movie Rocky in Stallone in 1975 and having been the last opponent of Sonny Liston is alive at 82 years old. I think there are probably others but I don't see
Fighting Harada is 78 Former feather champ from the 50s Harold Gomes is 88 Former world champ Carlos Ortiz is 85 Wow former world bantam champ Robert Cohen is 91
Jofre (Bantamweight great, also featherweight champion, only ever beat by Harada) is 85, and Robert Cohen (former bantamweight champion) is 91. There is a former LHW contender who is like 95, Billy Fox or something like that.
Impressive. Being in top notch condition most of your life probably has a lot to do with it. Mostly though it is probably genetics.
Its wild that Fox is still alive. Anybody know how he is doing? I can't seem to find any info or interviews.
