Most? Not in America Most champions make their money in America but many don't. There isn't one foreign champion who needs America. Even guys who can't fight in their own country, like Gamboa, can sell more at the gate in Europe. Why do you think Mayweather, America's biggest draw, is so keen to fight over here? He knows he can make millions at the gate alone and it shouldn't affect the PPV buys in America.
Are you from the UK? If you are you really haven't got a clue. You make a thread like this and cant provide an ounce of evidence to support such a claim.
It wasnt always like that, i guess the ppv's had something to do with that process:deal As a reason not the result. Also how can popularity of boxing rise in the Uk if the casual viewer cant watch it for free and by that way become a boxing fan? You see its a vicious circle. :-(
Hmm. In the last few years Froch and Khan have had well over 5m TV viewers on free TV in the UK for unhyped fights. Back in the 1990s Chris Eubank regularly had over 10 million and 16.3 million watched Eubank-Benn. I bet a big fight like Haye-Valuev would pull in 10m and Haye-Wlad would pull in 15m. But there's more money for Haye on PPV. 15m x big ad revenue is much less than 1m x PPV revenue + small ad revenue.
Pacquiao is listed as one of the most powerful people in the world because of his global impact. Not only is be enormous in his home country but the entire continent.
So tell me where then??? and you've yet to provide info on how you formed your opinion!atsch You lauging wont get the question anwered!:good
Because britain isn't producing enough talent to compete at world level. BBC forked out a lot of money on Harrison and look what happened. That was the best we had in regards to someone who was suppose to be the next british boxing star and looked what happened. Khan run off to america who do we have? Britain focuses on football and nothing else.
Proof? Ticket sales, numbers of people who watch, endorsement deals, mainstream appearances? Of course there is proof, I just shouldn't need to spell it out for people like you. Mayweather didn't sell out his last fight - Pacquiao had the capacity increased, the Klitschko's regular sell 40,000+ tickets. All three get millions and millions of viewers each fight, Mayweather's two biggest fights to date, were only massive in America and watched by under 3 million people. Pacquiao has a successful deal with Nike, Klitschko's have Hugo Boss. Mayweather recently signed a deal with Reebok. Both Vitali and Pacquiao are involved in politics, all three are mainstream celebrities. Just a few reasons.
Follow-up on UK figures. When the England football team played an important qualifier on Setanta (Pay TV) against Croatia in 2008 only 1.55 million watched. When they played Croatia in 2004 on the BBC (Free TV) 18.1 million watched. So Haye and Hatton doing around 1 million on Pay TV suggests boxing could do 15 million on Free TV.
It depends which fighter. Kessler - Denmark Khan - UK Abraham - Germany Klitschko's - Germany Haye - UK Froch - UK Bute - Canada Tua - New Zealand They don't need America at all.
Figures for what? Everyone knows Klitschko's are watched by over 10million people, Pacquiao is seen by masses in the Phillipines, Mayweather did sub-3million, Klitschko's sell 40,000+. Really, these are disputed facts at all.
Your initial statement is true and i am not disputing that but like i said you have to way it up to what are these events going up against? For example these boxing matches aint going up against big brother or X factor they are going up against programs that are not prime time shows. Grabbing a 5m audience at 9pm is not impressive when you realise what it was up against.
But this is what i have been saying. Klitchko's pulling in 20 million viewers is not an indicator of how well they could do on ppv. You have to weigh up a lot more than just that figure that came from free tv.
